Im Using My Rougue as a Theif (as you do) and I want to know should I multiclass her if so at what level and what to (she seems to be fairly usless except for her bow using and theiving skills, I hardly ever get round to backstabbing it just seem to be to hard and complicated in the thick of battle + I always forget about it). If every level I Max all the theif skills what level do I need to get her up to before I wont need any more theif skills.

Also I have a Paladin and I did not really see when I first made him that many of their skills rely on charisma. He has a charisma of 9 and he seems to be fairly weak. I wondering are Paladins very usful and should I remake him (by getting rid of him and then cheating to put him back to the same level) or should I just make a new character the same way like a pure fighter or something.

Finally I was wondering what is the besty sort of cleric and do different clerics get different spells other than the special "once per day" spells (do they all have different normal spells that they gain).

I would be greatful for any help.

    Thanks

[IMG] You can multiclass you theif at anytime, but it depends on what kind of rogue you want. I took 1 level of ranger for my thief to gain the ambidexterity and two weapon fighting feats, just because he looks cool figthing with a daggeer and shortsword!

Your paladin is a problem. Charisma is the main ability a paladin needs to be effective. Charisma drives all of the paladin's abilities; Healing, persuasion, cheaper costs in shops, etc..You also need need at least a 14 Wisdom to cast all the paladin spell levels. I usually put 4-6 into wisdom, 8 into Charisma (or 10 if Aasimar) then any remaining points in strength. Wear heavy armor to counter lower dex and constitution scores.

If you make a paladin similar to that, he'll be much more effective.

As for the cleric, again it goes to personal taste. I prefer the Battleguard of Tempus. Good spell abilities plus decent battle skills with the axe. Take a few levels of fighter for weapon specialization, and they're pretty decent!

Multiclass your Thief to Ranger. This will give you two extra feats, give you a racial enemy, and will give you better attack bonuses.

I never use Paladins, so I can't say anything about them. I say switch him for a fighter.

As Clerics go, there is my preferred list:
    1) Tempus
    2) Lathander
    3) Ilmater
    4) Bane or Talos

Rogues should get about 10 levels in this game. That lets you get two important feats: Improved Evasion and Slippery Mind, along with enough skill points to deal with just about everything you meet in normal. Since your character probably ends up with around 16-18 levels, you can easily multiclass your rogue wihtout problems. What you want to Multiclass to depends a lot on what your race is. If your rogue is a human, half elf, tiefling, or halfling, you can pretty much do whatever you want in terms of multiclassing. Barbarian, Fighter, and Ranger are all good choices, if you want to use your rogue in melee more.

You could also go with sorceror or cleric of mask, to give your rogue some shots at Invis, Mirror Image, Blur, and other nice combat spells (plus the chance to use scrolls of high end stuff in emergencies). Don't know if you have the stats to support a spellcaster multiclass or not.

Paladins are very effective, but you definitely need to have a good charisma to get full mileage out of them. With a 20 Charisma, you get +5 on all saves and can heal 5pts/lvl with lay on hands. Very nice! I'd definitely rework him in your chase. What you have right now is just a weak fighter.

All the clerics get a minor special ability and the extra spell per level. Which one is best depends on what you want:

Lathander and Talos rock for doing lots of damage with spells (Fire for Lathander, Lightning for Talos).

Tempus and Mask are nice if you want more melee help. Both have a lot of buff spells in their special lists, though of very different sorts.

I haven't used a cleric of Ilmater or Bane, so I'm not really sure how useful they are.

Selune, I don't recommend. They aren't awful, but the spells are not the most useful in most cases.

I agree with Vormaerin, especially in regards to the clerics. Lathander is a good choice for the fire spells and the healing. Paladins rock, but they have to have a high charisma. Multi-classing a Paladin of Helm to pick up some fighter levels (4) is, IMHO, a good idea. This way you pick up a few bonus feats and you can fully specialize with long swords or whatever weapon you prefer to use.

Rogues… Multi-classing to a ranger is good since you pick up the 2 weapon fighting and the ambi feats, but I prefer to multi-class my rogue with a fighter. I start this at 2nd level and basically I pick up only 1 or 2 levels of fighter until I get 10 levels of rogue in order to get improved evasion. After that I try to even out my levels until I have 2 levels of rogue for every fighter level. Right now my rogue is ECL 15 with 10 levels of rogue and 5 levels of fighter. The fighter bonus feats allow you to pick up feats that make your rogue a great fighter. I tend to use human rogue and at 1st level I take 2 weapon fighting and ambi. At 2nd level I pick up a level of fighter and add weapon finesse and dodge. After that I go for dash, specialization in short blades, bows, precise shot, improved evasion and improved critical as soon as I can get them, them slippery mind and rapid shot. After that it is all cake. My rogue fights with 2 short swords, sneaks for 5d6 and has 4+1 attacks per round. She does not always hit for huge damage, but she has taken down more bad guys than anyone else in my party (23% of total kills and 20% of total xp in a 6 character party). Even in chapter 1, she could hide and then sneak up on something and take them out with extreme prejudice.

Thank you for all this help it has started me thinking and I think I will change my party a fair bit.

One last question... for my rogue would it be wise to take some fighter levels as well as ranger?

    Thanks

It wouldn't hurt any but isn't necessary.

If you have rogue as a favored class (meaning you are human, half elf, halfling, or tiefling), a decent combination would be:

    Ranger1/Fighter2/RogueX

Your attack bonus would be about the same as with a pure rogue, but you would get two weapon fighting/ambidexterity from the ranger (along with a favored enemy), and two feats from the fighter class. It would also give you a much better Fortitude save and 12 more hp. You should still have plenty of skill points for everything you need. Just make sure you take Rogue at level 1!!!
