Well it seems that almost all if not all of the roleplaying threads have died, judgeing by the fact that no-one has posted on them since october, excluding of course Rashemen. I, for one, would like to roleplay on SP again, and was wondering if anyone else is interested in starting a new thread, or bringing back an old one. If there's enough interest, I have a few ideas in mind for games I would start/loosly dm, but more about that if there is significant interest.

Thats the problem. You can't RP by yourself  But if enough people come back into the corner, I'm hoping to raise interest, at very least, for a new RP, seeing as I doubt enough people from a single old RP will come back at this rate.

    — Never done that. :bad:
I don't know if I am able to DO it, (and my native language is french, then ...). :(

But I am "Wizard in the soul", then I can try :bad: :hmm: :)

    Perhaps.

    • If some one creates a PLEASANT start with an atmosphere similar to AD&D 2nd Ed., with First Level Characters, I agree to TRY to incarnate a Human, Mage, (non-specialist).

His name would be very like to mine : Cal Urwyngar.

If you are interested, or that you want propose a start, please, write a PM to me. :)

I sorta gave up on the RP I played in when they went dormant for summer. Now I'm busy with other things - NaNoWriMo, holidays - I can't get back into the mindsets of any of the characters. :bad:

@kuemper: Well, if you can't get back in the mindset of any of your characters...lets make new ones! OR is it just that you're too busy for rping in general?

@everyone else: would anyone be interested, specifically, in starting a new RP? One set, most likely, in the FR, and following (possibly modiefied) 2E rules?

    @ Deepfae :

    • I have forgotten to tell you in my reply to your PM, but I insist for a start (if any!) with ONLY First Level Characters allowed :
The "non-experienced atmosphere" of beginners characters shall be good to differentiate ourselves of the "Rashemen" setting, I think.

... It is not always bad to be weak ... ;)

    — Perhaps you would want, now, create a special topic to put into it our characters, with their various abilities ?
Since there is NO competition, but only a story, near-all abilities and personnalities could be allowed, I think.

(I have watched a long time the example of Rashemen Game organisation. Numerous ideas for the game ORGANISATION can be taken again, perhaps ; what do you think of all that, Deepfae ?) :hmm:

Oh please, please, PLEASE don;t start as lvl1 characters...

That annoys me more than almost anything in an rp. You have no cool stuff or spells, and are forced to fight goblins and kobolds for months. Yawn city

I wouldn't mind one if it was removed from D+D stats (I want to punch myself for the stat heavy RPs I've created which are just confusing and massively rigid) and one not based in FR so there is more flexibility in the terms of world history.

I've got a massive world I've been creating to play table top with some friends, but it's a long way from being done. Has currently over 20 deities (which I've tried to make as detailed as the deities in Faiths and Pantheons), 12 different planes, world history, famous characters, religious and secular orders and a map in the making. Until this gets done, it's going to take up a lot of my time, but I wouldn't mind trying to fit an RP thread in while I work.

Ok I've looked over the past few posts and here's what I think so far:
    -A new RP is needed.
-I think Ilmater's Suffering is right, in that removing it from the FR would give more flexibility to the campaign, as in we wouldn't have to be bound by the history, current happenings, and geography of that region. That said, however, if I am the one starting up this campaign, it will most likely have a slightly FR feel, seeing as I am mostly limited to FR sourcebooks for inspiration. That is to say, I may implement some FR specific classes/races into the campaign.
-@Ilmater: I have one or two campaign ideas, which may or may not fit into your world. Also, by the same token that putting the campaign in FR would force the campaign to conform to the specific history of FR, I fear that putting this new campaign in your world might do the same. However I am still open to the possibilty of integrating a campaign into your world, if you really want to.
-Concering the starting level of characters, I think level 1 characters would probably be best. Cal is right-it adds a certain atmosphere that makes everything seem possible, becuase our characters would not be weighed down by their pasts and their personal baggage. And yes, fighting kobalds and goblins isn't fun, and cool spells/items are fun, but I intend this to be mostly a roleplaying campaign, as opposed to a stat/fighting heavy one. That means that, as opposed to running around fighting goblins to level up, our characters would be more focused on the quest at hand and the storyline. And seeing as online RP's go pretty slowly anyways, I would assume that our characters would be facing pretty serious challenges pretty quickly, or the RP would become boring pretty quickly...
-SO yeah. Long post, and a lot of things I need to work out, such as (quite possibly) a world, how to organize and measure our characters without stats, and so forth. This week is pretty busy for me, but I'll try to work on this in my free time, and I hope, by this weekend, to have an OOC thread for whatever RP gets started from all this.

    — Good Heavens, NO, no, nOoo0Oo !!!
Slaying handfulls of little monsters at start is a greenhorn error. :nolike:

When you play BG, for example, are you trying to kill endless hordes of goblins and kobold and gobelins to climb to levels already more powerful, saying, mmm, Level 5, for example ?

    — No, clearly. You search for big and isoled monsters, prettily soon, and you arrow the poor, (saying, Ogre !) until he falls DEAD.

A little later, when you have magic +1 arrows, do as me : kill some vampiric wolfes at east of temple, the XP are great !

Later (level 3) you can make an little hunt, prepare the right spells and slay anhkhegs (975 x.p. by head), and take care of acid spittings.

... And so on. Kobolds ? Mother, NO !

    Ugh, lvl1. Bah.
You know, using Fr has the advantage that everyone knows the setting, and you don;t have to stick to the history/whatever else bugs you, beacause it's YOUR RP! You can change what you want, no-one will bite you for it! Wow!

    /end whinge mode

We could see, the history is still pretty bar bones that this point, mostly just major historical events. Problems are more likely to stem from the fact that the world is very human dominated; dwarven and elven kingdoms have already declined. Also the world has a very supernatural feel, powerful outsiders and gods are very influential and directly active in the world (mind you they don't walk amongst mortals unless they have to). The psychology of the world is god fearing and "deifically" dependent.

The world is suppose to feel like the way 15th century peasants saw the world; the religiosity of the world is apt to force attention to the role of the supernatural as even evil humanoids rarely act purely for their own reasons (more likely they are going to act in ways they hope will gain them favor in the eyes of this evil god). Even liches hold themselves to the tenets of the god of undead.

Might also be useful to note the absence of an Underdark in this world and therefore there are no drow, duergar, derro, grimlocks, aboleths, illithids or beholders. I have a race of evil elves, but they have more the feel of Danish elle folk or Swedish skogsrå and are feys rather then humanoids. The role of evil dwarves are picked up the Midgard Dwarves (who are 8 HD outsiders) from the Frostfell supplement (and have been renamed to make them more world appropriate). As for derro, I'm trying to work on the creation of a non-evil half-dwarf to take the derro's place (which would be a PC race without a level adjust) in the spirit of European folklore.

The Underdark predominately doesn't work because there would be a host of evil creatures in the stomping grounds of a neutral good greater deity who wouldn't take too kindly to what he would see as an infection of his body and a 69 HD colossal+ dragon with a divine rank of 17 can lay some serious hurt down.

I've been thinking about DMing a game, preferably a more or less freeform, that is a game with more emphasis on trust and speed and the fluid flow than on throwing the dice in the open and following every single tiny rule to the letter, not a ruleless game. But I'll need to make up a world for that, so I guess I'll limit to participating in something if anything captures my particular interest.

Would loved to get involved in a RP. If it's forum based, I'd prefer to stay well away from DnD or any other solid rule sets. Something fun and different would be great. A chat based RP would be even better :)

Too much time on my hands at the moment.

The only problem with no system is that the implementation of magic might become very difficult. I do think no system at all could make for a better chance to develop better conceptualized characters as they're more apt to exist as we see them, though I suppose the cultural orientation of a particular world could still affect the conception of certain types of people (i.e. druids, witches).

I would think it makes magic a lot easier. Just the few complete freeforms I've been in, it allows for so much more flexablility in magic. From the Pirates RP (the original) to that tavern one that was run here ages ago. Gives much more colour to magic than the basic spells systems supply.

    Yeah, so what? :p

To me there sees to be a potential problem in magic progression, specifically if not all spellcasters draw upon the same type of magic like say nature magic for druids, arcane for mages and divine powers for holy people, what are the boundaries of each type of magic and how powerful does a druid have to be to say awaken trees or similar concepts of awakening nature. Some variation on this isn't a problem, but if several people have significantly differing ideas on the potency of magic power, things might get confusing or inconsistent.

In the fantasy worlds I've written when I was younger, magic was nothing like D+D and I refrained from using it because it is essentially based on my own judgment calls. I'd love to use my own system, for in D+D I can't have a character simultaneously make the sky rain fiery brimstone and the ground burst forth with jets of flame, but I don't really have a way of telling others how much power is needed to do such an act; I know which of my characters can do such, but I'm not sure about other players' characters.

EDIT: So sayeth the rigid pessimist, yetch!
