Rolling stats

[IMG] Does anyone think that Bioware should have let you role your stats before you pick your class? That way the people that just want to role once and play could pick a class more suited to the stats! Thats the way its done in D&D.

No way! Because what if you have a specific class in mind. Then you still gotta roll to you get what you want and this time it isn't a choice. I think it's good how it is.

That would work well for the minority of people who actually roll once for stats, but really most people won't whether it's first or last. But it really doesn't matter for them anyway, since they'll roll till they get what they want regardless.

But on a side note, I do think it is easier for people unfamiliar with character creation to pick the race, class, sex, etc first before they decide on their stats.

What's the highest combined roll you ever had? So far I got a 96.

Well, the max possible roll is 6 x 18 or 108.
I have managed a few 99-103's but those really aren't necessary for a fun game - especcially with the stat-increasing things in BG1.

Minimum's for a fighter are 966666 which is only 39 and I am survivng with those numbers in a solo game in BG2 right now - there is a thread with those numbers in the title if you care to see how (not bragging, pointing to a place for tactic ideas).

Seems like the consensus on the board, though, is that anything over 70 really is playable - unless you just want to be GOD.

Good luck. Hope you like rolling if you want to get over that 96.

Yeah, rerolling the stats is the basic of my RSI-problem :)

You are talking about D&D. I just started a D&D campaign with some stats and I see there are some differences in your D&D version. The regular way in D&D: 3 dices, 4 (lowest die doesn't count) or 4, (highest doesn't count.)

KJ is right. It's a big mistake that many people make, to think that how better your stats are, the funnier the game is. WRONG, wrong, wrong. The good thing is that you also can miss when you attack, and also do not enought dmage to kill your enemy in one stroke. That makes both parties in the combats more equal and the fights will be longer and better.
In all cases you roll 6 stats and you can decide for yourself what to use for strength, what for dex etc. The buy system also gives you the oppurtunity to give your char the stats that are necessary for his class.
