I assume this is part of Ascension... but I can't recall anyone ever mentioning it. Maybe this belongs in a thread about the stuff we learn playing through the game, in which case I apologise for the low-level spamming.

For the sake of role-playing, I kept Sarevok's Sword of Chaos from the starting dungeon and when I revived Big S, gave him his old weapon back. He got a bit of dialogue about it, saying that he could restore some of its power, but that as an old Deathbringer weapon, few but he could control it. The weapon then became as follows: +4 two-handed sword, drains 1-5 hit points from target, requires 14 STR and 18 CON to wield.

I figure that plenty of people will have experienced this, but just thought I'd share it with anyone who wanted to reunite their BG1 nemesis with the weapon he couldn't kill you with. It's a pretty decent weapon and unlike Soul Reaver, he can still use it if he converts.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, adds 10% Magic Resistance when wielded as well.

That's nice. I did the same in an unmodded game and got a bit disappointed when nothing happened.

Woah, cool. Never thought of doing that. I always just end up giving him Ravager or something.

My experience with that sword is that it seems bugged in some way. Sarevok kept dropping it for me atleast, we would fight and all of a sudden Sarevok was fighting with his bare hands. Happened all the time and it was not caused by fear.

I never kept it. I always gave him another powerfull 2 hander. But with that deathbringer assault he could sneeze and do 200 points of damage so I never thought to keep it. But thanks for the info, I never knew it would upgrade.

Does anyone think his sword is a little underpowered at all? With or without Ascension?

Why give him a +4 when there are heaps of +5s out there?

Because draining hitpoints is awesome. I assume that means it drains the same as it did before, ie: drain 1 to 5 hp from enemy and give sarevok that much hp.
It would do more damage than a normal +5 sword, plus it heals you and gives magic resist, for one point of thaco.

when you say heaps, you mean two, right?
    - Gram the sword of grief
    - Psionic's blade
    he can't use holy avenger.
in anycase, both of those come after you get sarevok.

Well, you can also train him in halberd or axe, so there are other +5/6s out there. But I agree that the upgraded Sword of Chaos is pretty nice.

I've heard of people dual classing Sarevok into a Thief and using Carsomyr. :D
