What are good, bad, and average Saving Throws for a thief (currently level 8)?

    How about THAC0?

I am using SK to get the stats of my NPC how I want them, but I am unaware of what are good levles. Right now (unedited), the Saving throws are:
Paralyzation, Poison, Death Magic - 9
    Rod, Staff, Wand - 6
    Petrification,Polymorph - 8
    Breath Weapons - 12
    Spells - 7

Are higher saving throws better, or lower?

Um, those are the saving throws for a 17-20 level thief. 8th level saving throws are: 12, 12, 11, 15, 13. (At ninth they go down to: 11, 10, 10, 14, 11; and stay there until level thirteen.) Lower saving throws are better, and higher ones are worse.

THAC0 progression is much simpler, starting at 20 at level one and going down one for every two levels. This means 20 at lvl1&2, 19 at lvl3&4, 18 at lvl 5&6, 17 at lvl7&8, 16 at lvl9&10, and so on.

    EDIT:
Interestingly, the rogues' saving throws follow a visibly straight progression too; they're the only class group that does. Every four levels past one, you get one lower in PPDM, Petr./Poly., & BW; two lower in RSW and Spell. Weird.

When I make my NPC, it will automatically adjust those when he gains levels?

And if I want to make him slightly better than regular thieves at his level, if I decreased any of those by 1, would it get screwed up when he levels up?

Yes, it should, and rightfully so. :p If you do want to do something like that, though, I'd suggest implementing it as a saving throw bonus added onto an NPC-specific item.
