[IMG] O.K., I have always wanted to go to one of those high production value haunted houses, you know? The ones with the web sites and they cost like $20 to get in? Well, none of my friends in the past ever wanted to go. So, now that I'm in law school and have made new friends as geeky as myself, we decided to go.
I live in Kansas City, and there is an old industrial area called "the bottoms", its physically lower than the rest of the city and seperated by the geography as well as the fact that there is nothing good doing on down there with the exception being haunted houses for like a month out of the year.
Anyway, I'm blabbing. We go down there and its crawling with people, there's like six different houses. We decide on a house based on the web site, and finally find a parking spot. We get out of the car and start walking toward the line which was right around the corner of the next building. We get to the corner and hear BAM-BAM...BAM-BAM-BAM...BAM-BAM! Is that a wacky house staffer going overboard? NO! It was a shoot-out between some criminal types and the police! Everyone is running all over the place. I first ran toward the sounds because I'm weird like that and I actually wanted to see what was going on. Then, after the second salvo I reversed course and dodged behind someone's truck. In seconds the whole area was full of police in every vehicle imaginable, marked and unmarked and helicopters with lights and so on.

Two cops were shot, and I actually saw one of them hit in the leg. One of the criminals was shot and killed and was just lying in the street, and the cops thought there was still one shooter running around trying to get away. The crazy thing was, all the people there for the haunted houses just went on with their evening! We had to choose a different house, but it wasn't the same. Nothing like a gangland shoot-out to put a damper on your evening. The police cordoned off the whole area, like five blocks, and my car was in the center of it all. So, after the house trip we had to wait like 3 hours to get my car back.
I've posted rather prolific here, but I just wanted to share some of the highlights of my existence during this frightful season. Any others have crazy stories?

[IMG] Craziness man! I am glad you are safe. I'm not doing much for this Halloween. I may even be working that night. Hope everyone has a safe one, what with all that's going on right now.

[IMG] This is a true story...Not as harrowing as Orkrist's, but weird nonetheless. It may have been a halucination...But I swear it happened:

When I was a freshman in college I lived at home with my parents for my first semester. One night in October, I was coming home from a party at my fraternity house...it was about 3am and there was a full moon out!

I pulled up to my parents house and park out on the curb. As I got out of the car, I spotted something coming from my parents back yard - down their driveway. It was someone wearing a black cloak walking down the driveway. The figure walked down the driveway and down the sidewalk...Right towards me.

When the figure was about 3 feet away, I could see it was an old woman. I asked her if I could help her...and she just looked up at me, and kept walking down the sidewalk. I turned away...then thinking that that was really odd...Turned back to where the woman was walking - And she was gone!

    Not terribly scary..But definitely weird!

[IMG] Oh Sir Bel, some scary neighbours you must have, no wonder you moved away ... ;)

About the shootout - good to hear that you're ok, Orkrist :)

[MENTAL NOTE: Don't forget - no reason to resurrect an old topic about firearms controll & restriction ;) ]
