    Hey all,

I played BG II way back in the day. Since, I haven't played a game that came close to being as good. I just bought the new Dragon Age: origins game, and it sucks. Would ToEE be worth getting? Is it comparable to BG II? Are there as many sidequests and such?

Also, where could I buy ToEE, is it available for download?

    Thanks

Please don't ask for download links, it is illegal stuff and is strictly forbidden here AFAIK.

As for the answer to your question that you should buy the game itself or not, I would say not. I really hated the game and found its combat too slow, repeatitive and boring, but maybe that's just me. The game is also very buggy but I think there are unofficial mods to fix issues. There are couple side quests but I just could not like the game, I could not feel the atmosphere or excitement or fun I have in BG2. Now BG2, is the game of my life, and this game can't even come close, I was able to play for a few days then I had to stop or die of sheer boredom.

I on the other hand thought TOEE as modified by the CO8 group was a great game. The combat was turn based as opposed to real time and you could actually make tactical decisions. I loved it. You should be able to get TOEE for cheap. I'm pretty sure I got it for $10 and that was a couple of years ago (unless it now goes for a premium as a classic).

I tried really hard but it was a pain even with the mod. So I'd say get it really cheap (like I did) or don't get it at all.

[IMG] You may wish to attemp the demo to see if the mechanics are to your liking and if you'd be interested in getting it.

It is a game of very dividing opinions. It doesn't play like BG2 but it is based on a pnp campaign, as such there is a lot to do, and a lot of variety for different characters - just be aware that the module is designed to be run by a player and that doesn't always translate well to a computer game, some areas may seem a little tedious or jarring as 'in reality' it is meant to be played with a group of people.

I think he was asking about downloading from services like gametap or steam. If he really wanted to download it illegally, I doubt he would have needed to ask. It's not like torrents are hard to find, after all.

ToEE is nothing like BG2, or Dragon Age, or anything else really. If you want to get it for the side quests you probably won't like it. The game's strongest point is the turn-based combat engine, and it's a real beauty. It simulates the D&D ruleset down to the smallest details. If you know what you're getting and that's the kind of experience you're looking for, you will love the game (after patching it of course ;))
