I think BG1 is worth playing for it's a cool game and it's easier to play BG2. The story is far more clear in the beginning when you have already played BG1. Another goot thing is that you're imported character from BG1 can be more powerful then when you simply start BG2 and create en new character. (cause of tomes of strength etc)
I played BG1 too after I bought BG2, it took me 2 weeks and it's was worth it.

Yes, BG1 is easier to get into, and maybe even has a better story. Whether or not this is true, you'll feel much more involved with your character, and get a lot of background info that'll enhance your BG2-experience. So I concur with the others : do it!

I would do it, because you'll understand the story better, and you'll know a couple of background things that are fun to know when you play BG2 (Like Minsc: "They killed Dynaheir and I couldn't do a thing!") If you haven't played BG1 you don't understand all of that stuff.
    So play it!

One thing i did like about bg1 was the fact that at the end of every chapter you could expect to fight a strong boss and his lackeys. I wish bg2 had more of this, but its more or less a bunch of sub quests in bg2.. until about chapter 6 or so.

I agree, I like the story in BG-1 much more than in BG-2: You are faced with enemies that want to kill you for some reason you have to find out yourself...
It was pretty cool that, when you enter Friendly Arm Inn and pubs in Beregost and Nashkell killers were waiting for you - just when you finished the Nashkell Mines and when you return to Nashkell. You have to puzzle all the information from the scrolls you find at all the major villains ... wheras Irenicus journal is thoroughly useless, Bohdis books give you some hint but that´s it.
So BG-1 has the much better story. But I really miss the cool spell animations from BG-2 ... For more Info of BG-1 vs. BG-2 I recommend Slappy´s topic

[IMG] Yep, you start with 161.000 xp when you have ToSC.

Aaaah, I have just dualled my BG-1 fighter to a thief at level 6 (**** in longswords but INACTIVE!!! :( ) and have reached lvl-2 as a thief. I´m alsmost helpless and totally dependend on Minsc, Kivan, Viconia, Imoen and Edwin... but in just 28.000 xp this will thorougly change ... ;)
