Disclaimer: This happened a couple of weeks ago, and for some reason I feel the need to put it into writing.

Life is odd. I am a CPA and have been working for the same firm for the past few years. It is one of the largest firms in Massachusetts. While I admit I have been underwhelmed with my raises over the past few years, I am still one of their highest paid employees and I do very well. Well enough that Mrs. Snook doesn't have to work and we don't want for much. Don't get me wrong we aren't Rockefellers or anything, but we have a very nice life. It could be much worse.

As anyone who knows me (or reads my posts) I lean towards the conservative side of the spectrum. Change isn't the easiest for me. So what happens, my entire world gets tossed.

Out of the blue I receive a phone call from a headhunter who tells me she has my "dream job". It would be a lateral move for me, but the location is under a quarter mile from my house. I could ride my bike or walk to work. With gas prices the way they are, this is very attractive. I'm also intrigued by the prospect of being so close to home. I met with the managing partner and others and I'm sure it would be a great fit for me.

Then they knock my socks off with the salary. It is an additional $15,000 a year which is more than a decent increase. The benefits aren't as good, but they aren't that bad.

Now the headhunter is driving me crazy as she wants me to make the move so she gets paid. I'm guessing she would get a 30-40K payday if I take the job. I know it shouldn't matter, but I really don't like her. She is too damn pushy for me. Everything has to be automatic, where I'm more methodical and wouldn't do anything without the proper due diligence.

I told her I would have an answer by the end of the weekend and let her know on Monday.

I've been thinking about it all weekend and I may have made my life more difficult, but today (Sunday) I sent a e-mail to the partner who I do the majority of my work with. It was a pretty ominous e-mail about my "future" and since then I have received an e-mail from the managing partner that he wants to talk to me.

Tomorrow at work should be interesting.
