    Mainly they are a way of expressing an emotion to indicate the tone of a message or the feelings that went into the message. Text alone is not that conducive to that unless you want to be wordy. A quick emoticon is an easy way to say "I'm just kidding" or "I'm really pissed about this I am most definitely NOT kidding" etc.

    [​IMG] For those of you a bit slower on the uptake, I have installed 7 new message icons you can use when making a new post or reply, and about 50 smilies you can use in your posts among the text. You can find the codes you need to enter for the smilies to appear at http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/smilies.html as well as their explanations. This Smilies Legend is also linked to in every reply/new topic page on the left side of the text entry box.

    Anyway, I'm off to bed. It's 3am here. :coffee:
