I just got through the underdark and I'm already at my maximum experience levels; 24 level fighter and 20 level mage. Ouch. I haven't played through ToB yet, so I don't know what to expect. I'm about to attempt to solo demogorgon, but I'm wondering if this experience cap will haunt me in ToB.

Download the famed experince cap remover. It's found at this site. SP downloads. It's not really cheating you still have to earn your own experince, but it's up to you I guess. Your very good.

If you've hit the XP cap for ToB before actually starting the game, that's quite impressive. I don't think it'll cause a problem - in the same way that the SoA XP cap doesn't cause a problem finishing that game, so the ToB cap won't cause a problem with ToB (except for the frustration that you'll do all that game and never gain a level...)

Yeah, that's the truth. I keep getting these bundles of 50,000 experience points and they're all for nothing. Anyways, after re-loading about 15 times, I finally beat Demogorgon. Are there harder enemies than him in the rest of ToB? If so, it's probably going to be impossible for my character to complete.

I read something about a solo fighter/mage at Gamebanshee or some other site...can you give me some specifics like what weapons you choose?

scrap the F/M and play with a F/M/T.

    Much more versitile.

You CAN finish the game without the exp. cap (Bt if you use the exp. cap remover, for some reason you still won't get the special mage spells....at least I didn't).

Go through it once without the exp. cap if you don't want to "cheat"......but I still think that it's not really cheating if you have already played through the game once.

I LOVE solo game playing. If you want to REALLY have fun playing solo, buy Icewind Dale and play it solo....a very underrated game IMHO.

Sure. I have 2 points in longswords, katanas, war hammers, quarter staves, single weapon style, and two handed weapon style. My character uses celestial fury, daystar, dragon slayer, staff of the magi, staff of rynn, and crom. If i did it over again, I probably wouldn't have gone with staves.

[IMG] Fighter-mages are impressive, having played one before I was somehow disappointed with the melee punch and so I decided to make an elven multiclassed kensai-mage. I am at level fighter lvl-12/ mage lvl-13 at the moment and I will reach fighter lvl-13 soon. I, however, do not solo.

In the beginning I was a little worried about AC and I learned quite a lot of armor spells for my protection. Anyway, I have just enterend the underdark and my AC is unbelievable :whoa: AC -10 *without* a field plate or a shield - I have dex-18, single weapon style, the robe of the aprentices (AC 3), cloak of protection +2, ring of gaxx and the rose (sp?) ion stone (-1 on AC). I can easily boost my AC to -13 at need, using this lvl-4 armor spell.

I am using longswords (Namarra/ Flamethongue) to get the elven race bonus for this weapon in single handed style; I spent the rest of my proficiencies in bastardswords, katanas and I will get a flail proficiency next. With str-19 I have a THACO of -2 with Namarra, -3 with C'Fury ... I frequently hit critical with aprox 40+ damage, normal damage is approx 20 per hit. I'm going to get the girdle of frostgiant strength soon so I'll get more XP and an even better punch :)

The only drawback of this char is the remaining vulnerability to stun/ charm attacks due to the poor saving throws - and I will have to deal with the mindflayers soon ... ... all in all not as robust as my halfling paladin but a more versatile kickass char

There is one amulet with 15 charges that has been my best friend against mind flayers, because it makes you immune to the stun attack. I don't remember exactly what it's called, but I think it's the greenstone amulet.

War nerve, yes it is the greenstone amulet and you can find it in the beholder area in underdark methinks.

Wow, that's impressive. I must say there are maybe a bit too many items that make Mages have a good AC, normally that is the weak point of mages together with Hit Points and Thaco but with this class you have good HP, Thaco and AC... and you still have to gain the girdle of Frost Giant Strentgh... With Elven Chain, bracers of Defense AC3 etc it is a bit too easy for mages in BG, that's why the best to soloi s a mage (kensai/mage)

[IMG] hmm, I'm not sure about that, kensai-mages are fabulous, no doubt about that - however, the best class to solo with IMO *must* have a thief in it ;) - too large are the xp-earning advantages of the thieving abilities and the availability of stealth especially.

So I think for soloing the swaschbuckler-mage may be even more interesting.

  15. Lord Sarevok Guest

Yes, with Shadow Keeper. Create a Fighter/Mage and change kit to Kensai, wholah!

Yep, that's actually what I did - the result is awesome.

I am on lvl-15/15 (4.000.000+ xp) and I just finished off Bohdi's lair. With Jhor the bleeder and str-21 - one of my fav weapons at the moment she has a THACO of -7 or so .... the only problem with doing basic quests later in the game are the xp-related spawns .... in the shadow-lord dungeon I encountered 2 bonus-liches; I had about 20 vampires in Bohdi's lair and just outside of it I ran into a group of 8 warskelettons  no problem for a group of four: my kensai-mage, Mazzy, Imoen and Nildir, halfling swashbuckler and (though vamped at that time) Anomen.

Unfortunately he was vamped in Bodi's lair, so I didn't had my dedicated anit-undead char at hand - but before Bohdi vamped him he casted chaotic commands on my kensai-mage; that lasted long enough to ensure no charm could endanger my party. As for Anomen: He sucks as a person but is a very effective spellcaster and a valuable party member.

[IMG] Hehehe. If Anomen sucks as a person, then what is your character doing romancing him to the point that Bodhi abducts him as your love interest?! ;)

  18. Lord Sarevok Guest

I agree, Anomen is a very good cleric, and can hold his own in combat, as well as use all of those blunt weapons that no one else can. Just get him gauntlets of dexterity ASAP, cause he only has like -1 ac wearing full plate with his crappy dex!

    [IMG] Plain and simple BTA,
    (a) I needed a good cleric and
    (b) I needed a good slingfighter (proficiency beyond **)
    (c) I was curious about the romance-plot (the only one I didn't know)

He becomes pretty useful after getting Sir-ed, at the moment he's lvl-24 and about the best undead killer I ever had.

And about why romancing him ? See, my elven kensai-mage is a powergaming one, so she has chr-8 and is happy to find *someone*, *anyone*, even Anomen
