    Hello and good days,

A couple of days ago I have posted about what character I should solo play with. Now I am going solo with a kensai/mage but I have some questions:

    1. I read somewhere that k13/m28 is the usual build. But shouldn't it be k12/m28? because you get the kensai bonuses at 3n and 4n levels if I am not wrong.

    2. I am playing The Darkest Day mod. And I had some nasty surprises at the Irenicus dungeon due to the mod (a wraith ogres, bunch of bugbears and such). If any of you played this mod solo, can I get some advice if it is possible or not. (I do not think that TDD is a buffed mod like ascension but anyway)

    3. Resting is a hell of a problem because it took me 300 days to get out of the Irenicus dungeon. There was no time limit in the game but will it cause problem (if it will be I will have to use cheat key resting)

    4. After I dual class, I think i will be no more different than a 1st level mage till I get to level 12. So how does one gets the quick levels in order to survive with a nooby 1st level mage.

    5. And can I get some progress advice. At least about which first quests should I venture solo.

    Thanks in advance

    1. 13/28 because fighters get an extra half attack per round at level 13, increasing the number of attacks and damage potential by 25 percent.
The power gap between kensai12 and kensai13 is bigger than the gap between kensai9 and kensai12.

    3. If you have the DUHM special ability using it before resting can increases the regeneration rate enormously. Turn off "rest until healed".
If you have a pickpocketing familar you can get the regeneration ring from ribald, else try to do a quest which grants another regenerating item or use mage spells (like TT) for healing.

    4. By scribing scrolls you'll get enough XP for casting level 5 spells. Then you'll already be more powerful than before you dualed.

Your answers made many things more clear but I cannot decipher DUHM.

as I detailed in your other post, you can always tweak things to play a multi-class Kensai/Mage rather than dual class, it's up to you (of course) how you want to play things.

I learned over time in the first Baldurs gate, to slide my reputation both above and below the average rep to get the most from the innate abilities my character picks up along the way. If your rep is above average early, you can get cure light wounds (actually you can get two of them), and if you slide into below average later, you can get vampiric touch. Things like that make a big difference in how long you have to spend healing up.

If you want to begin in BG2, you can still edit your character's innate abilities in Shadowkeeper to achieve the same thing. It is up to you if you feel comfortable doing it.

Personally I have edited a number of things in my current game, and I'm cool with that, but then I have played the game many times already. In this run, besides being a multi-class Kensai/Mage, I have used mods to switch Minsc to a berserker, which I felt was closer to his nature (he also now fights with two weapons, axes and hammers which I like more than two-handed swords), and I have also used a mod to convert Nalia to a thief. Anomen had a minor boost (to dexterity) to allow him to wield flails, as did Imoen (on strength), to allow her to wield a longsword. I did all that to get a different party feel from normal.

Enjoy your solo run through, you may have to do some careful planning to succeed. You will also need detailed knowledge of strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of tougher creatures, not to mention an in-depth appreciation of spell-use. Be lucky.

later addition....you must get a rod of resurrection. Stick it in a quickslot and you have 10 full heals you can use any time - perhaps the most underrated thing in the game. Indispensible, and excellent value for money at 11,000 odd (depending on rep)

    3. healing wise there's a few options
    >temples (you'll have plenty of cash since you don't need to equip your party)
    >potions - again you'll have heaps cos you won't need to share them with other party members (just make sure you have unlimited potion stacking from EoU)
    >regenerating items - haste will double your regen rate ;)
    >Larloc's Minor drain - you can cast it on chests/containers etc for some health.
    >rod of resurrection - simulacrum yourself with Valiant's helm and get him to use it on you (as not to waste the charges)
    >As mentioned above Tenser's transformation is a good option (it doubles your hitpoints)
    >probably an only-if-your-really-desperate-thing: get your resistance to a certain type of damage up (say fire) and then fireball on yourself.

    4. There are a few ways to speed up the leveling process:
    >As mentioned above: use scrolls to gain xp.
    >do all the fighting in a quest as a Kensai, but dont collect the reward until you're a mage. So in trademeet, kill everyone in the druid grove and kill the Raksashas, but don't talk to the mayor or the Genies until you dual.
    >You'll be more powerful that your average lvl1 mage - you'll have plenty of nice items, plenty of cash, lots of scrolls and the hitpoints of a lvl13 fighter.
    >If all else fails, use cheesy hit and run tactics ;)

    Good luck!

One very useful item for a solo character healing-wise is the Cloak of the Sewers (found in the sewers in the Temple District). The troll form granted by the cloak lets your character regenerate quickly once a day (so you don't have to rest as much).

Didn't know you could cast drain on containers!

Healing is a pain while you're still a Kensai since you get hit so often. I'd try to hit and run with range attacks as much as possible until melee is necessary. 300 days... wow. How did you deal with the traps and locks as kensai?
