    I disagree.

Playing through with mine has been a breeze. The only slighly difficult part is the beginning. But you just need to be careful. Now at level 17 nothing gets through my M. Sword summons, then add a few Horrid Wiltings, and everything is dead. I am in the Underdark by the way.

Yeah that’s what I thought, plus you level up faster and you don't have to share your 1337 items with NCP’s :D but then later in the game I just cant see it being so easy

    very difficult

you can't cast spells in athkatla or you will have to face the cowled idiots, you can't disarm traps or pick locks, you can't heal yourself, your spells run out quickly, and unless you *cheese*, won't get very far

should you proceed regardless, pick good summon spells such as animate dead, mordenkainen's sword, etc - they will keep the enemy occupied

really useful spells for solo are web, improved invisibility, stoneskins (duh), melf's minute meteors (most useful spell in the game?), the magic resistance lowering/spell protection removing spells (pierce shield, etc), death spell, and greater malison - pick cloudkill if you want to cheese a little (although i don't think cloudkill is a cheesy tactic at all - especially when you are faced with hordes of creatures)

you won't need to select vocalize if you pick up the amulet of power

try to get the rings of acuity and wizardry to boost your arsenal of spells

robe of vecna and the staff of the archmagi are a must

    good luck

Sorceror is a cakewalk. You get enough spells to easily take care of business early on with such mundane things as fireballs and magic missiles, you make extremely liberal use of summons, and once you get to level 7 and 8 spells there is nothing whatsover that can stop you (except boredom). Example: Oh look, there's a [fill in the blank with your favorite monster]. I will launch my minor spell trigger with a couple of web spells to slow them down [did I mention that I walk around with stoneskin?], palm my staff of the magi so that no one can see me, take a couple of steps back, summon a [fill in your favorite nasty critter], and watch the fun.

For example, let's use, say, the pack of mindflayers in the sewers: Oh look, there's a bunch of Illithids. I will, in this case, forego my minor spell trigger with a couple of web spells to slow them down and go straight to palming my staff of the magi so that no one can see me, take a couple of steps back, summon a skeleton warrior, and watch the fun (maybe summon another one to speed up the slaughter). Oh, they don't seem to be doing much to the skeleton -- perhaps because it has no brain to eat.

It's even more boring with image projection (and I'm not even going to get into that other stuff that makes it over-the-top easy in the next part of the game).

Quite frankly, the only danger to this solo is from boredom. I think Earl Grey ran a solo soreceror in our "hardcore" thread (I was running a Ranger/Cleric). I will find it and edit in the link.

    Edit: Here's the link: http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=006326;p=1

The sorcerer stuff is mostly on the second and third pages.

@ Ivellos - It's actually not all that difficult even at the beginning. You can pull enough defensive spells like mirror image to go along with the offensive spells like fireball to avoid getting hit in the beginning. It's just not that tough if you know your spells.

I think it would be just awesome to solo with a Chaotic Evil Fighter/Sorcerer (by using SK of course).

That way you could have many spells memorized so you could keep playing rather than resting every 5 minutes.

Even with SK you can't make a fighter/sorcerer.

It's been said many times before, but it's worth repeating: You can solo with any character class or kit.

It gets harder if you use the rule: Reload = Game Over

I thought I'd just mention here that Project Image makes the Sorc way cheesy! Technically, it might not be cheese...but you could get upto 35 times your normal spells using project image!

Just cast a Wizard Eye along with it and your set. This spell shouldnt be allowed! :) 35 Abi Dalzims...just think... Irenicus is putty after this!

With SK you 'can' make a Fighter/Sorcerer dual class however you will have to re-enter your THAC0 and number of attacks every time you level up and in game you won't be called a 'fighter/sorcerer' you will be called just a sorcerer.

Yeah. You see, with SK you can only assign yourself a valid multiclass. And then, you can assign one kit. That's why you could make a kensai/thief multiclass with SK. But since sorcerer is a (non dualclassable) class and not a kit, you can't do anything.

Anyway: how should a sorcerer do the beginning of the game? Chateau Irenicus seems really hard to me and also Athkatla until you get your magic license.

    But you can't assign 2 kits, like a Kensai/Assassin?

As for a sorcerer in chapter 1...
Because a sorcerer can have quite a few spells memorized, they can cast fireball into a pack of goblins and they'd all be dead. With the Duegar, just cast Spook on a couple, then hit em' with a fireball, Magic Missile, and/or Melf's Meteor.

Chromatic Orb, Mirror Image, and Invisibility are crucial spells.

To add to Mystra Chosen's post, I have never been awakened in the Irenicus dungeon, so just have your sorceror take his time and use his spells wisely. Empty the spellbook as many times as necessary. Sleep on it.

A bit off-topic, but no, you can't. SK only allows you to select one kit. Oddly, the kit doesn't have to belong to one of your main classes; so you could have a m/c fighter/mage, and select a cleric kit. I have no idea what impact this would have on your game, though - it might crash it or, probably at best, not come into play. Also, I noticed that the Barbarian (but not the Sorcerer) is actualy considered a kit in SK - maybe a fighter kit?
