My chac's a solo swashbuckler now in chapter 5, he's doing fine. Juz a question, will it be possible to finish the game him alone? I've heard of solo monk, nvr a solo thief. Till now, i haven face any problem. He can pretty much clean the area. I equipped him with magic resistance & saving throws items, after all the only problem for him is spells.

A question about backstabbing, i've notice the rune assasins in riejek's basement can hide and backstab IN FRONT of me, doing tonnes of dmg to my thief. I was wondering wheter can our normal thiefs can do this too. mayb a hide in shadows 200++ ?

Another thing i notice about thief's trap, it does fire dmg? there is fire animation on the enemies. The traps even kill Iron golems, why? when even my weapons cant hit it. And i notice something about save vs death when enemies rolling with my traps, i was wandering wheter they do instant death to em'?

Well, actually i planned to solo assasin... but later in the game, his lousy Thac0 can hardly even backstab an ettercap... so i went swash...

They only way I am familiar with backstabbing in the front of a character is with the Assassination ability, which is in ToB, so I won't get into that.

Also, I don't believe traps do fire damage. Iron Golems are immune to fire. The save vs. death thing with the traps doesn't necessarily mean that they cause instant death, but it is more likely that you can save vs. death against a trap for less damage (although it really should be vs. spells in that case).

    Welcome to the Boards.

Hmmm... that make sense. Thanks guys. Well, gonna try hard to finish it wat is started. Juz my playing style, i read a brief walkthrough and see wat's ahead. Shouldnt be much problem for now. Using fake-talk, traps to survive.

Wat i find dissappointing is hitting lvl 23 too fast, now he's only upgradeble through items. Disabling my vampiric touch and cure light wounds hurts, but arent a problem with my gears.

Question, do multiple regenaration stack? like ring of gaxx and gloves of regenaration or even ring of regenaration. Or does it juz pick the last regen item u equip?

And uh... 2D4 +3 and 1D8 +3, which is better? Its blade of roses and a long sword, the name's forgotten...

Sorry for all the questions, coz i'm not familiar with AD&D rules... i turn the internet all over to find out the rules but wat turn out doesnt explain much...

    Thanks guys

Me thinks a +3 weapon is needed for Iron Golems.

Blade of Roses is the only +3 Long Sword in SoA unless you have the special merchants. If you are using 2 weapon style with your swashbuckler, try a short sword in the second hand.
    +4 Cutthoat is nice.

    Can they use Katanas?
    Try +3 Celestial Fury

You may have limited weapons points though... :(

Ignore Ezellohar's "advice", you can finish this solo.

Swashie means no backstab, but you seem to connect it with your character, why?
The assassins in Riejeks basement cheat, the dirty buggers!

I think that regen items stack, but I'm not at all sure about it.

All the items make it possible to finish solo.

Thx guys, then i should be able to continue my saga without any hestitation. Yeah, i d/led the merchants. Got the sword and bought tonnes of tomes, almost boosting most stats to 25 (no fun...)

I dual wielding blade of roses and day star. Ras equipped in 2nd quick slot for meat shield, aidded by lvl 9th berserker (Move away and everybody attacks the sword, its indestructable guess? but not the berserker) Should try cutthroat combo one day. :)

i placed 2 slots of proficiency in long sword and 3 in two hand weapon style, 1 goes to katana though. Thats why i'm using long swords all the way. (should've put in short bow instead of katana... sigh... regretful) Kept a blackblood (is this the name? the club with acid dmg) against clay golem and trolls in inv. Tahserons for stone golems. Dozens of restoration scrolls 2.

Well for the backstab thing, i'm juz curious as my swashie encounters'em in riejek's basement. I've tried it with my other thief, it cant. Now i find the answer, thx guys.

Thief's detect illusion, is it similiar to the mage's detect illusion spell? Its pretty cool to see mirror image dispelled yet everybody thinks its useless. But i dun think it can detect invisiblity though, thats why i kept dragonslayer handy too.

And uh... as u can see, i'm a die hard thief class fan. Can assasin solo the game? His lousy combat skill's giving me a hard time.

Yes, BG2 can be done solo with that char... Though Dualled Fighter/Thief would be easier...
And you miss all party banter... :(

You can finish a solo game in BG2 using any class or any kit, it's just a matter of how you do it.
But it would be wise to have a full party for the first run, 'cause soloing can be boring at times.

Regarding the hitting level 23 to soon, well SP have a nice program/patch that will disable the maximum level limit. This program will help you achive levels beyond the normal BG2 cap. Caution though... you might become a demi-god with it. So it's your choice.

Welcome to the boards and enjoy the game. :)

Thx, where can i get this programme? the one i found in only for ToB... not SoA. Sorry about the forum rule thing but wat isit?
and yeah, i read it already.

Well, not really my 1st game though. I'm playing a Kensai/mage with Viconia only on the other game. And yeah... they both reach max lvl too though...

As for the regeneration effect - it stacks. That means Ring of Gaxx + Ring of regeneration + that diadem (forgot the name) is nice to observe
High level swashbuckler is a demi-god even with the LVL cap.

the rune-assassins in Reijeks basement is probably fighter/thieves... i had a halfling fighter/thief and on a critical hit i used to do 120 damage... normal 60... that was fun... i have a screenshot when i does 152 damage... the enemy died

and NO i don't use hacked characters...

Well, they backstabbed me. Its not about the damage, but they are able to hide in front of me and perform a succesful backstab!! (Well, much like a frontstab or sneak attack...)

That's because they have an over-kindly helping of Potions of Invisibility. :)

Well, i ran a few other test previously. If the thieves really drank potions, there's a message "Blah blah blah quaffs a potion" and all i found was a Short sword+1 (if my memory didnt serves me wrong...)

Murderers can backstab in front of u too.

I'm soloing in assasin now, i noticed something about Save vs Polymorph when i backstab... then i recall seeing something about a hidden information about assasin's backstab ability, when it reaches high level, it can stun people.

Anybody have the list? Please please please tell where can i get one... thx hehe

There's something interesting about thief's traps and guess nobody has much knew of this information yet. I'm not sure yet, trying to get the exact one though.

Starting lvl's u get normal traps (yeah, known)
Middle through u get poison traps (cool! spell interupting!! killing liches without fake-talk)
Later guess u'll have fire base traps

It might have more... but i dunno where can i get more info about this. I finished my swashie recently, many thx to traps...

Uh... well question again, in the guarded compound, the Grabelzu (or watever its spelled... hehe) doesnt trigger my traps. Frustrated, i knew it can only be hurt by +4 weapon or better... Why? why my traps doesnt sprang at the @$#@#$??

No choice, i lure those fellas upstairs, and down. hei!! The demon start cleaning'em (yeah!) i backstab the fighter, grab the Celestial fury and clean some then ran, cant do anything with the demon...

And yeah, the thief (ketta if i'm not mistaken) can backstab in front of u too... 36 dmg to my 74hp thief... ouch...

Any good thief walkthroughs out there? mayb it can answer more, thx!!

[IMG] Ok, just to get this straight: The message doesn't necessarily come up with "Rune assassin drank Potion of Invisibility", but they do drink them.

And (oh dear..duh!) if you play thieves you should definetely know that they can only have one trap. That's right, thieves get ONE type of trap, only one, that's the one you start with. Set Snare.
This effectively releases an arrow or whatever to the target when they walk close.

If you picket a Bounty Hunter kit, then you get TWO Different traps. Set Snare and the secondary Bounty Hunter trap. The Bounty Hunter Trap (Set Special Snare) has a different effect at different levels, such as Extra damage, Hold at 11th, and finally Maze at 20th.

If you didn't know that, then *sheeesh!*

Here's an excerpt from Ragusa's "Why Thieves Rule" guide on SP.
You should read it, maybe it will clear you up a bit. haha :D

Guess the meaning i'm sending out is gotten wrong eh? hehe. I read that Ragusa's guide long ago, learned a lot.

Now the trap thing, its still the same set snare skill, just what those snare do. Plain talking, me no like. Try it yourself, I ain't here bragging or sharing some fake information. The traps do have those i've mentioned.

Hmmm... not sure about the drinking potion thing. Although it doesnt appear in the text below but it should've a "quaff" text floating on top of the drinker, like Neb and followed by a mild animation.

Bless me for being a fool if the potion drinking action doesnt appear to what i know. But me being no newbie u can trash around. Who doesnt know about Bounty hunter?

My presence here is to seek and share knowledge, not to seek anger. Anger will only prevent a person from growing.
