    Hi all D&D freaks,

before i start with my question: i know the DM is always the one who says something is allowed or not. In this case that might be important.

As an Arcane spellcaster, you get from your armor an Arcane Faillure chance. That is because of the Somatic Components. Now i want to get the feat 'Still Spell'. This feat allowes me to cast my spells without any somatic components. Does that mean that when i have the feat, i can use any armor?

Note: i'm planning to play a Bard. I know about the other penalty's you receive on skills, but that doesn't bother me much :).

    Thanks!

[IMG] As a DM, I'd say most assuredly yes. :)

Quote from the PHB, p.105, under Arcane spell failure:
"If the spells lacks a somatic (S) component, however, you can cast it without making the arcane spell failure roll."

Quote from the PHB, p.85, under Still Spell:
"A still spell can be cast with no somatic component."

I think that makes it quite clear, don't you? Your bard can praise his luck. :)

It doesn't mean that you can use any armor, it only means that spells prepared with use of Still Spell will not suffer from Arcane Failure. But they will also be considered one level higher than a normal spell, so you will not be able to prepare (or just cast, in cae of bard or sorcerer) way too many of these.

You would be able to cast spells so affected without the spell failure % check, but it doesn't mean that you are proficient in the use of all armors and shields.

If you are not proficient with a particular level of armor, your attack rolls and any skills affected by movement suffer the armor check penalty. The levels of armor proficiency are Light, Medium, and Heavy. Shield proficiency is a seperate feat also. If your class is not proficient with the level of armor, you would need to take the proficiency or suffer the penalty.

Bards are proficient with all light & medium armors, and shields (But Not Heavy Armor, which includes Splint Mail, Banded Mail, Half Plate, & Full Plate).
