    1) You must have a RogueStone, it can be found in various places as loot, treasure, or purchase it from Maver's Guildhall. Then go to BRIDGE district, find a building with locked door (it has a trap), open it by thievery or spell, click in to enter. If you have a rogue stone you will be teleported. BEWARE! You will face the Twisted Rune, a VERY tough battle if you are not prepared! (you have been warned) so make a MAJOR save before going in, you can not go out unless you kill them all!

You will face a TOUGH beholder, a TOUGH vampire, an arch-mage who summons a PitFiend (if you have the unmodded game), the toughest normal lich in the game, and a TOUGH fighter ALL at once!!!
(if you need strategies, just ask)

2)You need a druid to challenge Faldorn, the evil druid that has taken control of the grove. Jaheira or Cernd will do the trick. (if you have the unmodded game that is)

3)Pure kensais are a horror to behold if you do it right. Equip him with BEST weapons and protection items. Ring of Kangaxx, Ring of Protection+2, anything that boosts AC and gives regeneration is suitable. Get PALE green Ioun STone it adds THAC0, HP and very usefull! Get the shortsword which casts MirrorImage once per day(it helps A LOT just equip it in your weapons, you do not need to use it at all as a weapon). Get mastery at katanas and warhammers to dual wield Celestial Fury and CromFaeyr (the massive STR bonus with Kensai's natural damage bonuses make him the best damage dealer!),

Also use him as a blitzer type fighter, not blocker! Have your heavy-armored fighters rush to the enemy and block them, THEN send in your kensai for the slaughter! Just try to avoid enemies attacking kensai! ;)

On he other hand, dual-classing is FUN and POWER-GAMING. And a kensai dualled into a thief is a DEADLY BACKSTABBER!

If you have ToB, you may dual your kensai at level 12, (to get +4 to hit and damage), and continue as a thief. Use SET TRAPS, HIDE IN SHADOWS, MOVE SILENTLY. When you get HLAs get UseAnyItem to equip ARMORS as well! Use ASSASINATION to do MASSIVE damage quickly! Get UBER HL traps and you will rock! :aaa:

If you do not have ToB, thieves are rather weak, so think carefully. A pure kensai will be much powerful maybe? :nolike:

    1) You can also get a Rogue Stone from the "adventuring party" on the 1st floor (2nd floor American  ) of the Guarded Compound in Temple. This Rogue Stone is different from the normal ones in that: it is unsellable and it gives you a hint as to where to go. It still unlocks the door, though.

    2) You can tell Cernd you'll meet him in the grove, and get him to challenge Faldorn without joining your party. You won't get the XP (well, unless you use the Guard trick and get lucky), but is handy either for folks who have 6 members and don't want to shift them around, or for soloing characters who will feel that taking him into the party is "cheating".

    3) Depends on how much micromanagement you want to do! ;) Thieves are very powerful, played right. Kai backstabbing - once you get the hang of it - is devastating. Traps are especially potent in vanilla SoA, but were nerfed in ToB. Dual at either level 9 or 12 (level 13 gives +1/2 attack, but I never notice much difference, especially if you've got Belm or Arbane as your off-hand weapon). Level 9 is probably too soon, but if you're impatient or not used to babysitting recently dualled characters, might be more fun.

And Silverstar's right about the way to use kensai as what I call "2nd rank" warriors. They're not 2nd best - by any means - just fragile. A partner tank with suitable kit will help their survivability immensely. Actually, a druid might be helpful, as you'll have more castings of Barkskin to help protect your kensai.

But if you're enjoying your plain kensai too much at level 12, then keep it, by all means! +6 to hit and damage by the end of SoA is a pretty nice bonus.

Pssh, they made the Kensai in BG2 so much more powerful then the actual character class in second edition. Its so overpowered I find no fun in even playing it.

    Try a dualled kensai/mage or Kensai/thief and then you'll see overpowered :p

[IMG] Unless bikubaku requests to have the topic moved because he has ToB installed and he's posted it in the wrong forum, please don't post any ToB content or spoilers assuming that he has it installed.

Since this is the SoA-only forum, you assume that the original poster does not have ToB installed until you learn otherwise or the thread is moved to the ToB forum. Thank you.
