I've settled on having Coran in the group after booting Kivan, just to play the game through without a rediculously powered character like that (I'm going without minsc too).

Inside Baldur's Gate I started on the minor quest that brings you to the low lantern to get a book that cures a child cursed by her step father. I'd never done this with Coran before, turns out its his kid, that he didn't know he had, because he'd run out on his lover. Strange being nearly the same side quest that Cernd gets in BG2, and the kid's name is Namarra, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the name of one of the swords in BG2? Those guys sure are 'creative'

Anyway, aside from that, when I completed the two minor thieves guild quests I got a text prompt that said, "Coran - Aura cleared"
What the hell does that mean? I've done those quest before in past games and have never seen "Imoen - aura cleared" or anything like that. Such a strange game.

Actually one other miscellaneous thing here (just added in so I wouldn't have to make a new post): I'm thinking of swapping Dynaheir for Quayle. Any opinions on that?

    keep Dynaheir. No questions asked.

As for the aura bit, i think i have that before. I think that it was that if he did not do the quest coran would change alignment for not protecting his child and when he completed the quest he got rid of that risk.
Just a guess but hey i tried.

Haven't played with Coran, the only thing I know about him is that he with the Eagle Short Bow is awesdome :) I suppose it has indeed something to do with alignment....

About Quayle or Dynaheir, I would advice to play with Dynaheir, unless you hate to play with good-aligned characters. Quayle has a rather low level and dual classed. (Cleric/Illusionist) (I though when he joins you he's at both classes just at lvl 2. They have the same Intelligence (17) and Quayle has very bad Wisdom (10). Dynaheir has a much better charisma and constitution and strength, only with Dexterity, Quayle has 15 instead of 13 for Dynaheir.... No hard to choose between these 2 I suppose :)

About the whole Aura cleansed thing. I've seen this happen to my character several times throughout the course of the game. I've never understood what it meant myself. I believe it might have happened to a couple of my NPC's as well. Can't be sure about that though. By the way, I found Coran great. Excellent archer, best in the game. And not a bad fighter/thief either.

Quayle is a good character. I found him usefull, he was the only cleric in my party. His wisdom is bad, admittedly. But his sheer number of spells is very nice, and if you want a cleric/mage, he's the only choice the game gives you. But naturally he won't be as powerfull an NPC as say Dynheir or Viconia. But I always keep a cleric/mage around as a backup spellcaster. I've found the more mages, the merrier. Just my taste really.
