[IMG] I recently bought Total Club Manager 2003 (a football management game) and of course I found my way to the official forums.
Once more I'm reminded about how spoiled I've been by the good moderators and generally high quality level of the members here on Sorcerer's Place.

It could be that the average football fan is more obnoxious and not so bright as the average fantasy gamer. I don't know. I can't shake that feeling though.

What really matters is moderators who truly cares and never accept crap to be posted where it shouldn't. The philosophy of accepting crap postings because it helps create a "buoyant atmosphere" is IMHO not a good one for the long run.

Here is the topic showing my reaction after having been a member about three weeks:

I have to agree with you.... Recently I've been perusing other forums in search of something else to do with my internet time, and every message board I have come across is filled with obnoxious, foul-mouthed people who run unchecked, insulting who they please and with nary a semi-intelligent, more than two lines post to be found. I have found a grand total of 3 interesting message boards in the 5 years I've been online... SP, and two others that are now closed. You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.

I go to some other forums occasionally but then mostly to try to find information about various things. I only post on SP. A while ago I posted a few times on another forum but not much. My main post was one similar to the one Earl Grey showed us here. Asking for the moderators to enforce the rules so the boards were intelligable. They ignored it. I dont know why so many boards are such a clutter, most have the same rules as SP. The mods just dont enforce them. Is it because they are afraid of hurting peoples feelings if they enforce their own rules?

[IMG] I only post on two other boards:

The ALFA community boards (Fairly often lately)

Skullport (Rarely - But I like looking in on old Sylvus Moonbow every now and then!)

Well I suppose I'm ruined, then. This is the first message board I've ever registered for and posted on, and since it's my first, SP will be the standard to which I hold all others forever. From what I've seen browsing other forums of various subjects, none come close to SP that I've seen.

Props to BTA and Tal, yo! :thumb:

Keep up the good work, fellas. You help make my particular leg of the rat race all the more tolerable. My thanks. :)

[IMG] Nah, every board has its charms and its audience. Its what we get used to that counts. I have certainly gotten used to this place. I know the people and I know the interior furnishing and I know my way around the place. And I know people know me. That is home. The last one is more important to us than we might think, right?

    Examples
I have been to good places but felt so annoyed with the layout that I went away.

I have been to places with lots of spam. Stayed. But eventually giving up even though I enjoyed a few of the posters. But it seemed to take too long to spot out the good entertainment and info.

I have left places because, they were just too exhaustive to graps with more than 300-400 active posters.

Woo! Just read a more uptodate post on the footie forums and I've just discovered that Cissy has been banned! For bearing a swastika as his avartar (sp) ... Good! lol! That'll teach the little ****

People like him annoy me constantly and I understand why it would offend Vexis

[IMG] I never forget how good SP is. I join precious few sites. SP is my ultimate favourite.

Which may just say how sad my life it

I've only come across one other forum that is like SP. Funny though, both are sites dedicated to games, and both stand high in the communities of said games. Neither are the mainstream sites though, thereby avoiding the tidalwave of idiots, and just getting the occasional stream :)

There is one other forum that I consider pretty good, but it's a forum with no set purpose. Pretty much one very VERY big whatnots :) So it's a bit of a chaos, but the mods there do very good work, and the general community is very positive. The occasional rotten apple is quickly tossed out.

There are a few places on the net that should be treasured, for they are true havens. :)

About 20% of the time, I prefer SP to the real world! Good friends, fun talks, no scentable farting -- it's all good.

Yes, we don't think about it, usually, but we would certainly notice if SP disappeared one day, which not come! Actually I've been registered and posting on loads of boards, but SP is the special one. Long live Forum Rules! :D

Just like Death Rabbit, this is the first site I registered. Taking SP as the standard it might also be my last.

What's really annoying: the flashinglights/discoworld that posters like this 'shepowens' create. Pfff... and the smilies. What are they playing? 14 in a row?

I thing I like most about SP is the fact that there aren't any of those annoying HTML banners people use for their signature. SP has one of the best layouts for a message board. Not to mention a great group of active posters! :thumb: :rolling:

[IMG] Thanks for all the praise people, it shows that our efforts are appreciated.

On topic; setting down a bunch of rules on a board is not really an issue. The problem is that if you want the whole board to play by those rules a) all the moderators and admins have to play by the same rules as well, and b) you have to enforce them constantly. Every day. For every offender. It's an unbelivable amount of work to keep SP as clean as it is, most of it going on entirely behind the scenes with PMs/e-mails to rule breakers. All the time.

It's kind of ironic; some countries have a totalitarian regime, and they are generally evil and oppressive.
Here, we have a Taluntainian Regime, and the opposite is true. :)
(Hmm, maybe that should go on one of the SP Merchandise products...)
