[IMG] I am having difficulty finding the actual description/results of some special abilities. For Example, my Cleric has the ability to cast "Smite Evil". No where in the manual or in the game is a description of exactly what "Smite Evil" is or what it does. Right clicking has no effect. There are also a few others that are not listed in the manual either. Any help?

i think i saw the description somewhere, did you tried the information icon that comes with the character detail screen?

But anyway, smite evil is a self enhancing spell. Once casted, it gives you a minor edge to hit and damage evil target or something like that.

Well, Smite Evil is certainly going to be a minor thing for a Paladin early in his career. Its also going to stay minor if you neglect the Paladin's charisma score.

A higher level and properly developed Paladin just plain rocks with Smite Evil. Just ask all the Gelugons and Half-Dragons my Paladin smoked one on one.

Having said that, I'll explain exactly how Smite Evil works.

Once you activate it, your next attack will receive a bonus to hit its target equal to the Paladin's charisma modifier (if it is positive). If it does connect, its scores extra damage in proportion to the number of Paladin levels the character has.

So, find an evil monster, activate your Smite Evil, and then attack that monster. That's how it works.

I checked again and no cleric domain allows one to use "Smite Evil".

It can only mean that the Cleric has some Paladin levels.

I want to ask a question:
Does critical hits work with "Smite Evil"?

Thank you for all of your replys. My error: It is my Paladin that has "smite evil" not my cleric. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks

I think Smite Evil can join with critical hits. I've on occassion scored a 50+ damage strike after a Smite Evil, which led me to believe that a critical hit was involved as well. Long sword criticals score x2, not x3 at any rate.

So, you say when using "Smite Evil", if you get a critical hit, your paladin level will also cause doubled damage? I have a character wth 16 level of paladin with 30 CHA(+10 modifier). If I get a critical hit, will I get 32 damage for paladin levels instead of 16?

I honestly don't know if that extra 'Smite Evil' damage gets doubled as well, or if its just the weapon plus strength bonus damage that gets doubled.

    Either way, its certainly impressive.

Yes, impressive and effective. No doubt on that. Whatever, thanks for reply.

    EDIT:
I tried to figure out if "Smite Evil" works with critical hits yesterday. And, yes it does. :)
