Don't know for sure, but it's probably the same system as ac and thac0: the lower, the better. And I just found an bow which was said to be xtra fast; with a speed factor of 3.

The lower the speed, the sooner you will attack in battle. Your round in a battle is based on each individual characters iniative.

    How the game does this.

Iniative is based on a 1d10 roll. The lower the roll, the better. That total is added with your characters weapon speed.

So using the bow as an example, say I rolled a 7 for my iniative, plus 3 for the bows speed would give me 10. Now since it's a bow, perhaps the character has a very high dexterity and has a Missle Adjustment of -3, putting the iniative to 7.

Anyone who has 7 or lower will attack before you do, then you'd attack and anyone with an iniative of 8 or more would then follow.

That's only your iniative. Then you have to see if you hit.

A Short Sword of Quickness always strikes first in any round, which is very sweet for anyone who is profiecent in such a weapon.
