[IMG] I'm running an nVidia GeForce FX5700 with the latest set of drivers and I'm experiencing a problem with transparency. Character sprites randomly appear and disappear when entering certain shadowed areas (of which there tend to be quite a few) and if I turn on software transparency they game lags to roughly 1fps in spell effects and is generally mean. (the whole thing generally lags some)

I'm using the v1.1 patch, and I've tried mucking about with driver settings (I'm using v. 70-something) and such but no luck. Can anyone help?

Same thing happened to me recently in fact - see the Disappearing Chars thread in Techno Magic. I think old games don't like new fancy graphical nonsense.

Unless you've got another computer you could keep on older drivers (or which doesn't have this problem at all) you'll have to try some older drivers from www.guru3d.com or use one of the Software... graphics options.

The 'always download new drivers' mantra in PC magazines/sites is only relevant if you have ninja systems and buy the latest games as they hit the shelves.

In fact, I did find a solution in downgrading my drivers to v. 61.something. Eh, there's not a huge deal in upgrading anyway, so hey :p

Might also be able to fix it by disabling Direct3D and DirectDraw acceleration.
