The plan is to take a Stalker through the BG serie. Are there anybody out there who can give some advice and perhaps share thir experience?

Loocking forward to making my character be a unstoppable dual wielding elven stalker maniac of a Baalspawn. Should I be a elf by the way. Were you elf? Share with me people.

Have rolled a while for a ranger in Bg1 now and this is what I have got:
str. 18/03
dex. 19
con. 17
int. 10
wis. 14
cha. 17

By the end of BG1 I will have gotten +1 on all the stats, exept wis where I get +3. Then I will have: 19, 20, 18, 11, 17, 18
What do you think. Will he be better than Valygar?

 

my first char was a stalker but not elf, was a human. i had chosen human because i did not want to play bg1 again and thus not tome-bonus for my char. so there was no need to have 19 dex on a infighter and only have 17 con ...
in your case elf is wiser.

stalker is underestimated by most people. there are better chars for SoA, no doubt. stalker will be very good with ToB, just imagine the critical hit ability

I'd probably go with the elf since the Stalker is a stealthy character and 19 DEX should give a greater bonus to stealth than 18 - not sure though...? The table is for thieves. 19 DEX also means +3 instead of +2 for ranged attacks, but since you are dual wielding that's irrelevant...

IMO the Stalker should use stealth/backstabbing and ranged attacks - and not be a front liner. I'd go for katanas (or long swords) for backstabbing, long bows for ranged attacks and either two handed swords or halberds for melee (which also gives the advantage that you can stand BEHIND the real front liners). And elves get +1 to long swords and long bows btw.
That's how the Stalker should be played - that way his armor penalties isn't a problem.

But since you plan on dual wielding (of course backstabbing is still possible while dual wielding) you might as well go human for the 18 CON...

 

19 DEX = AC -4
But still, if you choose the good path in Hell it's rather nice to have 19...

 

I played a Half-elf Stalker and he was cool. The back-stabbing was great and I had a load of fun with him.

Elves are great, but I chose half-elf as I wanted the romance with Viconia. I could have chosen Human, but I don't really like playing human characters.

I would say that if you are planning on dual-wielding then 19-dex isn't so important as you won't be using bows much.

The con bonus (human/halfelf)is handy, but will an extra 10hp make a difference? I would say that when sneaking up an back-stabbing you are in the thick of it more, so it could make a big difference in the end.

The elf does give you an extra point to THAC0, but over the game this may not make much difference. With all the cool weapons, plus stealth, etc you will soon have a -ve THAC0 anyway.

Go human and think of Aragorn, although he wouldn't have back-stabbed anyone.

After all this rambling, I would say that the final choice would depend on your romance.

 

It seams like a lot of people enjoy the Stalker because of the backstabbing damage. Wouldent an Assain be better (x7 Backstab instead of x3)??

I guess Stalkers are better fighters though (abliet barely) .

 

ive done both and there really isnt much difference in the end. Just go ini-mini-miney-mo and choose one
