[IMG] In BG you may choose your starting first level spells, in BGII you start as a lvl 7 wizard does anyone know if you may choose 2nd, 3th and 4th lvl spells, if you can't it would be rather unfair compaired to clerics and even all other classes!

    Please reply fast!

You will have no problems selecting your spells for the lower levels but those spells will be the common ones found easily within the realms. Starting off with a rare or exotic spell in your library will not happen.

When you start the game, you might find that you mage has no spells memorised (which leaves you more than a little vunerable). I rested quite early to get some spells for me plus some useful spells for Imoen and Jaheira. From a role playing point of view you might argue that resting in Iranicus Dungeon is not on and that you should get out as quickly as possible. However, there is a motor racing expression 'to finish first, first you have to finish.' Sound advice here too.

P.S. I found Stoneskin to be a great 4th level starting spell for my Sorcerer.

Armor , Stoneskin , Magic Missile ,Globe of Invulnerability and Haste (boy do you need to be able to run in this game) are a must for a startup mage.

And a Kick - Ass , death dealing ,monster bashing , evil biting "Staff of Magi".

Sorry , got carried away there.

Your mage had already some spells remembered yes but I thought you couldn't select spells while creating a mage. In the beginning, magic missiles, fireball/acid arrow, haste and stoneskin are very good. The best thing to do is use the spells that are remembered at the beginning of the game and then get the spellbook-ok and then rest (resting in Irenicus' prison is no problem)
