[IMG] This may belong in Booktalk as it's book-related but if so I guess it'll be moved. Anyway, I heard from a woman who works in a local bookshop yesterday that Book 7 of the Dark Tower series will be Stephen King's last book EVER as he's dying! Can anyone confirm or deny, or at least tell me where I can find out?

No, he was just on the Daily Show with John Stewart last Thursday promoting a new book. He seemed fine so far as I could see.

Thanks Rednik, good to hear. Though I do wonder if he'd want it public knowledge yet if he is dying. But at least there's hope.

Considering he just wrote a book on the Red Sox, I doubt he has important health concerns right now. He did crash his motorcycle a few years back though.

Maybe she meant Dark Tower 7 is the last book of the series (which it is) ?

Of course he's dying. He's OLD!! I mean come on how many more books does the guy have left in him. I know that he's got a couple floating around upstairs for those rainy days with writers block, but it can't be that many.

There was a big time break in the dark tower series because of the crash. (Did you know he bought the car that hit him and trashed it with a sledge hammer?)
I thought he was going to stop writing horror because he'd more or less done just about every scenario he could think of. His website says that, at 55, he's still writing but a lot slower than previously but if he comes up with a really good idea he'll publish it. As Rednik says, the latest book, Faithful, is something to do with the Red Sox "04 season.

Well, I read about the van hitting him in "On Writing" and saw he even worked it into his re-working of the series Kingdom Hospital, but I didn't hear he'd bought and trashed it. Sounds like something I'd do if I could.

Anyway, I know he's getting on a will die one day but the woman in the bookstore said it like he's dying NOW. Like of some disease or other. Anyway, here's hoping he's got a hell of a lot more years AND books in him yet.
