[IMG] Does anyone here own stocks or bonds? In what companies then? Just curious.

Thanks for bringing up such a painful subject. Would you like to rub a little more salt in those wounds?????

Seriously, just getting into this "world" through stock options at my work (Worldcom - wcom) & my 401K. So far I haven't have too much skin in the game, which is good the way the market "adjusted" over the past year.

Ah yes, the market adjustment. I remember talking to a friend a little more than a years ago, 'Everything I buy just turns to gold!' I thought I was the king of investors. Now a little more than a year later I've worn out my third crying towel.

    Own:
    a Bank Stock (CIBC) :)
an Oil Producer (Husky Oil) :)
a wireless network manufacturer (WiLan) :(
a gold mine stock (Barrick)
an aeronautical maun. stock (Bombardier) :)
    a telecom company (Nortel) :(
    a biomedical stock (Biomira & Altarex ) :(

and a few other items to even out my crap portfolio.

Im terrified of the stockmarket IMO it seems like a big elaborat ruse to fool the money from regular people. If you dont have 20m$ to invest its all about luck. Sure you can have a bit of knowledge but when you get donw to it you can aswell buy a lottery ticket and hope for the best.
Its the big guys market and they only want our money.

[IMG] Lord Moeken: NORTEL??? ROTFLMAO :D

    (Couldn't resist!) ;)

If you want a good bullseye to aim at in my portfolio let me say one word "E-Toys" (I think that's one word).

"But the commercials are so cute," said my wife. "They'll do great."

[IMG] I generally stick to what I know. I have a lot of bank stocks, and stocks of companies whose products I like. I don't have any bonds - I am still pretty young (relatively :D) so I am aggressive with my portfolio.

I stick with mutual funds in all my investments (401k, IRA, and regular account).

Yeah I lost over 3600 dollars in my stock portfolio in just one week!! Way to go with Lucent Tech, huh? I still can't believe they chose the other side of the fence. Broad band is the way to go.. gawd are they blind? Nah, I still love em.. mostly because it's just a project we have to do for my Investments class and it's not real money. I guess I'm not learning anything so far. Anybody have any inside tips of whom I should invest in to make my money back?

[IMG] I say ditto with Blackthorne on mutual funds, until that is I know more about what to do with my money than someone who does it for a living. I just pulled out all of my investments and paid off all of my debts, bought a house in KC, MO, and I'm starting law school. I'll dump borrowed money into the house, rent some of it out, and hopefully make a profit on it when I sell it (bought with an adjustable rate mortgage due to possible short term of ownership.) Then, I can pay of my loans from law school. I finally got smart. I hope.

The key is to diversify. Puttin all you money in one stock is suicide.

The stock market is the best, bar none, long term place for investments. Those who invest wisely can make money. You have to stay for the long haul those. The so called 'day traders' are essentially modern thrill seekers.

You make money in the stock market doing one thing. 1) Buy Low, Sell High,

Personally, I have almost 2 grand in a mutual fund, which is still getting 12%. Its a long term growth fund.

Just one peice of advice for all you potential investors out there. Investing in a company that has never actually posted a profit for the year is, in my opinion, a bad idea.

Thanks for the input everyone. Which leads me to another money topic. I don't know about "y'all" but where I come from people are kind of backwards ;) I know some people who have buried cans of large money somewhere in their backyard. Does anyone know anyone else like that? Anyone that distrusting of banks?
