[IMG] You get robbed and ripped off in the BG rpgs but it doesn't have the same kick in the guts as when it happens in real life.

What's the biggest or most important thing that has ever been stolen from you?

    And

What is the biggest or most important thing that you may alledgedly have aquired, due to a mix up naturally, which you have yet to return/pay for?

(Stuff that you 'aquired' for a business doesn't count, only stuff you alledgedly 'aquired' for yourself.)

With me the biggest thing I lost was a jacket, probably because I am so untrusting that I would frisk a nun.

The most important thing that I have 'aquired' is an old book. The most valuable thing is a twenty pound note I found on the floor of a supermarket.

I would like to say something in my defence, but I can't think of anything right now.
    ;)

Actually stealing my time is what annoys me the most. Attention too, but mostly time.

It may be interesting to note that weapons are smuggled across the American border by kindly looking middle aged priests, next time you feel guilty for wanting to frisk the nun just remember she might be carrying an automatic.

The most expensive thing I've lost is a book, the most expensive thing I've gained is a cooking guide valued at $12.95.

I was driving home in the evening on a bus a couple of years ago, and I dozed off for a bit. When I got off the bus I started home, and just casually checked for my wallet. Well, after thoroughly searching every single pocket on me, I determined it was not there. Obviously the person sitting next to me took the opportunity while I was dozing to steal my wallet. I had some cash in it, my monthly bus pass, and some other stuff. I never got it back.

I've also lent some money to a few people that I never got back. Though I don't lend money to anyone if I can help it, I had no choice when I was in a store with a female "friend" of mine, and she "mysteriously" lost the cash she needed to buy the few things she already had at the cashier's. I was pretty sure she planned me to pay for it all along, but, of course, I had no other option but to play a gentleman and help out the lady in distress, so I paid for her knick-knacks. After a lot of apologizing and promises that she will pay me back the next day, I never saw that cash again. (Even though I've seen her a number of times since then.) But I didn't lower myself to beg her to return the money she borrowed. I figure if she sold my friendship for $20, she made a pretty bad bargain.

Someone at work many jobs ago stole my walkman, and through several car break-ins I've lost:
    * an HP 15C calculator
    * a pair of ratty sneakers
    * an equally ratty jacket
    * a box that held cassette tapes (pre-CD portable music... 'member those? The thief obviously didn't share my taste because the tapes were left behind).

And of course there have been numerous examples of things or money loaned to "friends" and never returned. I'm too soft-hearted for my own good, I guess.

At the other end of the scale, I once found $40 in a store. I turned it in but no one claimed it, so two weeks later it was mine. There are a few books on my shelf that never got back to their rightful owners. And then there are the cases of duplicate or incorrect shipments of items from vendors that end up in our favor... the airbrush, the bicycle trailer hitch, the child's sofa...

I have one of each, but in a way they don’t really count.

The biggest thing I had stolen was my 1 year old car. Left it in a parking lot, and stupidly left my jacket behind which had my keys in the pocket. When I came back, thieves had smashed the side window, found the jacket with the keys, and (surprise surprise) stole the car. Amazingly, the cops found it before any serious damage was done; good thing too, since I doubt the insurance proceeds would have covered the cost of a new car. (On a side note, this was my ‘car from hell’. I had six accidents in 1½ years, of which 'only' one was my fault.)

As far as the most valuable thing found, a couple of years ago, I found a $100 bill on the floor of a shopping mall at Christmas time. I guess I was in the Christmas spirit, because I decided to turn it in to security. (I couldn’t stand the thought that it might belong to some financially struggling family whose Christmas was going to be ruined because of a bit of carelessness :good: ) Well, as I handed it to the security person, I happened to notice the back of the bill (which I hadn't looked at before), and it looked ‘odd’. As it turned out, it wasn’t a $100 bill at all, but a store coupon whose face was made to look like one. I felt pretty stupid. (But nowhere near as stupid as I would have felt if I had decided to keep it and then tried to use it to buy something).

The most important thing I lost would be my memory, since I can't think of anything.

And for things I "aquired"... don't know. Is Kazaa illegal or not now? I forget.

The most irritating theft was my bike lock. Someone actually took the time to steal my (pretty expensive) lock and didn't gave my bike another look. And it's a good bike! There's nothing wrong with it! If you steal someone's lock, you've got to face the consequences and take the bike too.

I never really stole anything besides the usual Kazaa stuff. Never found stuff that's worth it i guess.

The other day I woke up and my kidney had been stolen...

    Oh wait. No it wasn't.

I've lived a rather crime free life.

That, or I'm supressing all the interesting memories.

My grandmother gave me two RM10 bill (USD 1 = RM 3) some months before her sudden but natural decease. i never spent that RM20. It was tucked deep inside my wallet. Eventually an ass stole my wallet while i was sleeping in a bus ride.

Stolen from me? Hmm.... Well, I do distinctly recall my box of makeup being a lot less full after a pair of former roommmates left. Both, when talked to, deny it and blame each other.

But I don't care. It's karma.... those were mostly... ehm... acquired.

    Biggest thing I have... acquired?

Don't ask. Really, I mean it. Just don't. I don't want to think about it.

Besides, I can't recall half of it.

My bike. Or actually, that should be bikes. I had mine stolen three times. All except one had two very big tough locks on them.

Biggest thing stolen from me wasn't worth much as in money, but it was my pencil case my father made. He'd drawn Calvin (from Calvin and Hobbes) on it and it was my favorite thing. Then someone stole it. People are jerks.

I've not really stolen anything except an eraser in third grade.

The most valuable thing, which I've lost, is my Zippo lighter. I lost it during my military service and unfortunately it was impossible to search 300 recruits in order to find the thief.

As for the other side of the coin I have never acquired something really valuable with illegal means, but I have to admit that, when I was a teenager, I didn't exactly walk to the right side of law. I used to steal things like icecreams, beers and magazines but one day I said to myself that this could be continued and from this time I am a almost lawful citizen.

I have never had anything that was specifically mine stolen but I was travelling with my brother and our father's digital camera was stolen out of my brother's backpack (which he was wearing at the time) while we were standing around at the airport. Just goes to show you that you should never put anything valuable where you can't see it.

Valuable things that I have somehow acquired that I never paid for? Besides the odd piece of software that has somehow ended up on my machine the only thing that I have "acquired" in the last decade was a pair of one pint Guinness glasses that somehow :good: made it into my pockets before I walked out of an Irish pub when I was on vacation there last week.

    Hmm,

This doesn't directly involve me, but I remember everyone in the house was upstairs, and someone managed to force the lock on out back door, stole the first things s/he could find, My dads wallet and the bag that my Mum kept all her stuff in - driving lisence, cheque book, purse.

there was only about... £20-£30 altogther. I remember my mum took every precaution that it wouldn't happen again... heh, we now haw looped barbedwire over the top of the fence at the back of the garden, which in turn has nasty spikey roses growing up it, the shed and play house (sisters, not mine) is now locked tight, even though theirs nothing in there. Motion sensing light on the back wall of the house... like a prison really.

The thing that annoyed me the most was when we did a house swap with some of dads friends in Canada. I forgot to hide my money box before we left. It had a £5 note in it, the most money I'd had at that time, the tender age of 7. Came back and it was gone. I still believe it was the people who stayed in our house who took it. That really annoyed me, I would've thought I could trust people to live in our house. Perhaps we could trust them not to steal.
