And the Rogue is the key :) Those fire attacks can be avoided with (Greater)Evasion, Rogue's high Dex means high AC without armor, and if your Rogue is a tiefling he'll have natural Fire resistance.

Have the sorcerer cast mirror image on herself first. Stoneskin, protection from fire, etc, can also be useful. Then brgin her in, cast a few summons, then cast invisibility and watch them do the work.

Well, surprisingly enough, my fighters never seem to have a problem in any of the rooms.

Send in your cleric. Summon a couple of undead and hope that you'll get zombies! Make the enemies targetting them. Then you just have to try to avoid the flamestrike. When you see the marker on the floor, run!!

I agree fire elementals are the easiest solution then just hide or run to stay alive until they do their job...

I hear a monk is also one of the easiest ways to complete the chambers but have never been able to bring my self to play one that far into the game... ;)

First time I tried 8 chambers I was succesful with a sorceress after about, oh... 8 million tries on the final chamber.

It was a frantic combination of mirror image, summoning shadow-salamanders, buffing the salamanders, and running like hell. Not a very good way of doing it, but no one else (in that party) stood a chance.

Since then I've had excellent success with a fighter/rogue/transmuter. Easy. He had evasion, so the flame strikes were a non-issue.

The spells involved: phantom blade, haste, mirror image (and improved invis, I think). Carved those monks up himself.

I'm going to be trying it on HoF mode with that same character using black blade of disaster or mordenkainen's sword.

@Ryld Argith, if your rogue has a good, "use magic device" skill, load him up with scrolls and send him in: mirror image, blur, fire shield blue, haste, any weapon or fire monster summons, and elemental/damage resistance spells would be good.

I know at that point in the game I was overflowing with old scrolls. There's that scroll merchant on the top level of the monastery too.

In an earlier game I had a Deep Gnome monk with me. Quite an easy match to beat the chambers. The chambers are made to use all strong sides of the monk, but I think Clerics are even better with animate dead as a low-lvl spell and much better without magic than arcane casters. A high-lvl druid should be almost as good.

I like to spread the wealth (or pain) around too so I don't always have the same character do all 8 - it's only necessary to complete all 8 they do not all need to be done by the same character... ;)

Fairly high level druid is indeed an excellent choice for most of them.

    Use a cleric or mage.

    Summon a fire elemental.

Then cast Sanctuary or Invisibility, and start dodging the fire blasts.

Yes, the FE will turn on you, but if you go invis, it won't see you and will attack the monks.

EDIT: ArtEchoke, you can't use your "give the rogue some scrolls" strategy, because you have to enter the chambers without any items on your character. None whatsoever.

This is why spellcasters are so favored in the 8 Chambers, because they have their own array of "weapons" already memorized. (Or at least they'd better have'em memorized.)
