Cool I added a new mod to my collection. Subraces for elves, half-elves, and short people.

It said in the readme that you don'T need to re-start a game so I loaded my last save.

A drow came and asked me the race of my mother. My DS is a half-elf, so I said:DROW. Drow thanked and left.

    My half-elf became a HALF-DROW. Cool!

Ifound out it gave +1 DEX and +%10 MR,
but -1CHA. Sure I will miss my 18 CHA but extra MR is always useful. Well upgrading DEX from 10 to 11 did little help but it is cool.

Then I started to get new abilities.
My char said 'Ah I have gained new powers when we were travelling and he got Darkness and Fearie Fire abilites.

Then it all got mad. When there is no battle, he kept spamming 'Ah I have gained new powers' continously. Which is a bummer as it stopped his movement. I order him to walk, he takes a step and says:'Ah I have gained new powers' and stops. GRR! I waited it to finish, since I was pretty high level, (level 27 Druidic Sorcerer) I guessed I would have MANY speical spells.

    But just how many?

I got bored when I had 260+ casting of Darkness and Fire spells. ANd it didn't stop.

'Ah I have gained new powers'
'Ah I have gained new powers'
'Ah I have gained new powers'

and so on...I had Dimension Door spell to counter the walking inability and CTRL+J but it got tedious. I ended up uninstalling the mod.

It is a cool mod but what is the cause of this annoying bug? Due to my high level? Or many other mods I have? How can I fix it?

    Any ideas?

I installed and tried that mod about a year ago and had the same problems. I was unable to find help, even on the mod's forums. Looks like it's abandoned.

Typical-enough sounding script loop. They're usually not that hard to debug, commonly just a global or local variable not being set correctly, I don't have a copy of the mod though.

Usually a pain in the arse when someone makes a typo in the code.

"Oops, did I put instead of [a]?"

Happened to me with C++ yesterday, it looped so much that it crashed the PC.

Friend of mine crashed the schools network with an accidental infinate loop. Problem is you're gonna have to find someone with a will and familiarity with that code to fix the problem Silverstar. Does sound rather neat though. I would love to play a sub race, though it would likewise be nice if I aquired the subrace on creation rather than by someone asking me what race my mother was... :-/

While that would be nice, since races are hard coded, it's not possible without some absolutely massive scripting. It'd be like adding a class (not a kit) or changing an alignment. The way the mod does it is rather inventive and serves its purpose as well as possible, I'd say -- ignoring the bug, of course. I also once heard of the subrace being removed upon level up but I think that was fixed somewhere along the way.

I honestly wish they would have done it in the same way they did the class Kits. They were already creating the stuff for the class kits. Doesn't seem like it would have been too much harder to take that same basic thing and apply it to the races either before or after stat rolls.

What, you mean make Drow a class instead of a race? Er..

In original D&D, "elf" was a class just like "fighter" or "cleric". An "elf" was a sort of fighter / magic-user. So to do that would be going back to the way D&D used to be! :D
