Alright, I'm wondering: what do you guys think about suicide and self-mutilation (not like piercings, but hurting one's self). Do you consider it cowardly? Last resort? Does one have the right to his/her own life?

Personally, I think it is a cowardly and selfish act, but I do not think that that matters. If a person feels so awful that death is the only way out, then it is their choice. Every person has the right to their own life and they can do what they want. Yes, it is selfish because you are fixing your problem without thinking about those who love you, but I believe that if you are so miserable that you cannot go on living, the other people do not matter as much as you.

What are your thoughts?

 

Each person has their own problems in life. Only they understand them fully. No-one else can pretend to understand what another is going through. People who self harm or have thoughts of suicide should be offered help and support, not scorned for being 'cowards'.

 

Suicide is neither cowardly nor selfish. It is a sign of desperation in most cases. People who commit suicide are usually so depressed that they see no other option.

 

I think of suicide as a way to "end the pain". What kind of pain is individual to each person. I'm pretty sure I couldn't kill myself because I start thinking about what happens afterwards. Who'll clean up the mess? What about my family? What really happens to outstanding debts when the debtor dies? What will the CSI people find?

On self mutilation, I do it. For me, it gives me a way to take the emotional pain and give it a physical manifestation so I can heal. It makes sense in my head, but I'm crazy.
