    Errr, I was wondering...

Does the spell Summon Cow really work in BG2?
I mean, I heard you can get it (by cheating of course), but you can't cast it.

    Anyone?

I tried it and didn't get anything.

It's amazing the ideas that sound intelligent at 2 am!
"Yeah, that cow will sure help fight those umber hulks! Now, if I only had my +5 milking stool . . ."

Here's the info from BG2 on that spell (I got rid of BG1, so I can't put info from there):

    Summon Cow
    (Summoning)
    Level: 2
Range: Visual range of the caster
    Duration: Instant
    Casting Time: 1
    Area of Effect: 1 Creature
    Saving Throw: None :D
    Damage: 3d10 crushing
The spell speaks for itself baby!

Cheat code for spell section in saved game or char file: SPWI299
Cheat scroll to learn it from for inventory section: SCRLZZ
    ....................

The spell worked this way in BG1:
    1. You cast the spell on a creature ;)
    2. The game plays the movie with wyvern grabbing a cow
    3. ---- (maybe here was supposed to be a cut scene where wyvern drops the cow)
    4. The cow falls down on a creature :D

So, the spell should probably be called "Summon Wyvern to Drop Cow".

But is it actually working in BG2?

afaik the wyver scene is the same one you see when wandering through cloakwood in BG-1 and iirc the wyvern doesn´t drop the cow.
So it is likely that BG-2, lacking the video scene, can´t create the spell effect ...

btw - has anyone tried the mdk2 spell (I saw it in shadowkeepers item list) ?

I got a bunch of cow scrolls. I made my characters memorize it, but it doesn't show up in their spell book.

If I cast it from the scroll, it works fine in BG2, like it was described above.

A cow falls on the target doing some damage to it....

I found this spell by accident. i was fiddling around with shadowkeeper to cheat for a screenshot that I wanted to do (screenshot of the week). Without giving too much away (in case Tal uses the resultant shot, which isn't of a cow unfortunately but that does give me an idea) I wanted to have loads of animals in one area. So I gave my character as many summon animal spells as I could find. I saw the Summon Cow so added that too. When I cast it in the game I found I had to target someone. When I did I was amazed to see an upside down cow fall very quickly on the unfortunate target :D It doesn't hang around much though so is easy to miss. I also have the debug/cheat mode active so that might affect things.

[IMG] Now I have to ask myself, why would I cheat like this in the game? Wouldn't it have been much more fun to play through straight and get the "real feel" of it all?

Honestly, at the time the answer was NO. I hadn't been in the AD&D universe for approx.. 10 years. BG2 was the first cRPG I'd played in about 3 years, and I was living on caffeine and stress. BG2 was a fun outlet for all that. So, my first time through I played a paladin, downloaded shadow keeper, and gave him the Holy Avenger Sword. Then I started playing with fun spells, etc.

Sorry Extremist! I just needed a break from reality. Unfortunately with the help of this forum, that break is turning into an extended vacation from reality! ;) I'm now turning into a bit of a purist, and am planning on starting up w/ the TOB add-in with a "real" game.v

[IMG] Hey Mat! No offense taken.

I just can't comprehend that noone of thousands SK users here never tried to see what's this spell about...

Why are they using SK then?

Mainly to overcome all of the bloody bioware bugs like dissapearing inventory, reduction of stats, thaco, etc for no reason and to set up screenshots for Tal :D

Never cheating on no, I would never do that ;)

Oh yea, sometimes to do research linked to a post/query here :)

Talking of cheating, I recommend reading this for those that missed it:

I heard that you may be planning on KILLING SK? Say it isn't so! How else will my first level character get his vorpal sword???? And I'm really going to need 100 potions of extra healing for my next road trip.

Thanks for editing that. There's no point in repeating myself.

Once I finished the game, I went back to an earlier save just before I entered the elven city. That was a good place to mess around with summoning strange party members and gear. I summoned a bunch of figurines that I knew I wouldnt get otherwise, and moped up a few quests that I'd missed the first time around. That's when I messed with the cow spell.

Some of these items that I can create seem really unlikely to be in the actual game. "The Butter Knife of Balduran"? I wonder why they're on the disc at all?

Extremist I refer you to this previous link for your answer about does this spell work in BG2: 'this link here'

If you read my first post, above you will see that I added this spell via shadowkeeper and then cast it and it did work as described. Do you need me to talk you through the process of adding this spell to a character's ability using shadowkeeper?

    by the way ;) ;) ;)

I guess you missed my ealrier input as you thought I was spamming again :)

Just been mucking around with this spell in shadowkeeper and a few thoughts occured to me that I should add. Firstly, it will of course help if you add the spell to somone who can actually cast wizard spells. Otherwise they won't have a spell button to click on to access the spell. Once you have added it, you might also need to let your character rest to memorise it (my sorcerer had to). You can also add it to other mages in the party not just the main player. The actual spell icon should appear when you clcik on the spell button on the control at the bottom of the screen. The icon looks like the Greese (pig) spell.

I have also got a screenshot of the spell in action. Unfortunately I can't upload to my website at the moment so can't post a link for you :(

Oh hang on though I've had an idea.

Slappy, I saw the spell in all it's "beauty" within BG1 and my comment was , so no need for piccy...

My question was because in BG2 it also searches for Wyvern movie to play it before the cow drops from the sky and since the movie ain't included in BG2 the spell shouldn't work. At least I think it's not included, I never checked...

However, put here a link to your site, willya?

Well my actual site is incredibly boring as it was for work purposes (pretty much defunct now). However I also have posted various silly stuff there as per links I've posted in the past. I also have space on a couple of freebie servers but I never seem to use those.

Unfortunatley tonight I can't seem to access any of the blasted things though (I've spent the last 3 hours trying :(). I'm especially annoyed as I wanted to post some portraits to use with Boo (using the cheat discussed in another post).

Anyway, if you're desperate to see a boring site:

    don't say I didn't warn you.

PS Horray at last. If you want to see an (unclear) screenshot of this spell in action look here:
