[IMG] The Summon monster1 and 2 spell are pretty weak but the summon monster3 should be a lot better where can you get one. The spell store in the Waukeen Promenade doesn't have one?

Jaheira should already have it if she's in your party. Otherwise, I'm sure you'll pick it up in your travels - that's how I got 90% of my spells.

EDIT: Agh, sorry. Got monster and animal summoning confused. Ah well, second part still applies.

hmm.. never played sorcerer.. but i think u can get it when u are high leveled.. but

i do remember coming across it several times.. enough times to get Nalia, Imoen and Me to write those spells in the spell book.. so thats 3 times at least.. and i think you can get it before Underdark or at least, by underdark.. cant really remember such small things.. anyway.. i dont really summon creatures often... i prefer to fight it on my own..

jaheira can't cast monster summoning since it is a mage spell and not a druid's spell. you are confused with animal summoning

and where you can get monster summoning 3, just look in the stores

sorry, you have already edited your message

I would drop the monster summoning spells, because you max can control 5 monsters.

Go for spider summoning, after that, wywern call, invisible stalker and nishruu. further up I would say that djinnies are quite good, as they don't blast you to hell with the sunray(the fireball from self spell).

elementals are powerfull too, though you need time to summon them, so scouting with a wizard eye would be preferable

The copper coronet has some spells and there are 2 spell stores in waukeens promenade. the lady in the back of adventureres mart, and the guy in front of his shop.

Just keep an eye out, they're there somewhere

Tch, control of max 5 summons I find lowsy.

Anyway, antoine numbered every spell in order as I'd do, but forgot to mention cleric "Gate" spell which I found the best. Still, there's another thing there that I hate - if you cast it twice, Ravers start to fight each other !?

A tip more: there were some guarded compound traps mentioned somewhere. Trigger both traps then escape to the left or right rooms (use boots or oil of speed), and Ravers will wipe out most of monstaz.

[IMG] The best summoning spells are the specific ones:
    - Spider Spawn (combine this with casting Web!)
    - Animate Dead (once you get Skeleton Warrios at level 15!)
    - Wyvern Call
    - Mordenkainen's Sword

Druids get Conjure Fire Elemental very early - level 11 (200,000 xp). This is an excellent spell for them.

I don't use Nishruu or Hakeashar since they might "eat" an item you'd get after the battle.

I must say that I found gate(and other demon summoning spells) rather useless, they aren't really that powerfull when you think of their level

[IMG] I agree with that but the advantage of gating (Cacofiend, Summon Fiend etc) is that they aren't considered summoned so they aren't instantly killed by Death Spell or Death Fog. That accounts for some of their "cost".

    Parvini is back!

The pitiful jiving on this thread has prompted a post. Here is my bible on Summoning Spells.

Monster/ Animal Summoning 1 & 2 are only useful as cannon fodder and to wasted enemy spells.

Spider Spawn is a tiny bit more powerful but similarly useless. Better use the figurine you get off that Priestess in the Graveyard.

The Cleric's version of Animate Dead is a brilliant spell. The skeleton's are immune to spells that affect the mind, so this becomes important later on.

Elementals should only be summoned by Clerics, that pathetic 'holding' time is just too impractical and they turn on Mage's more I find.

Monster/ Animal Summoning III - of little use but maybe if you want some short term stock tanks these spells are ok. Trouble is they don't stick around long enough to be effective. By the way I think Jan knows Moster Summoning III already.

Conjure Animals (Mountain Bears) - this on the other hand is a subereb cleric spell. They stick around for about a day and tank quite well.

Carrion Summons is worth seeing once but of little use.

Invisable Stalker - this is another good spell, they tank well and stick around for about 9 hours I think. There is no chance of it turning on you so it is better than summoning an elemental.

Wyvern Call - I use this spell alot but in truth it is rather weak. The Wyvern you get is a veritable weed. A sly trick is to cast this from the book of infinte spells coz the other spells it offers are of no real use late on in the game.

    Summon Fiend/ Cacofiend - a poor man's Gate

    Mordenkainen's Sword - great spell.

Wizard Eye - with this you can send a group of four summoned monsters to clean out an area before your party arrives. It tanks well too for something that can't attack.

Project Image et al - all of these types of spells with allow your duplicate to cast summons in excess of the normal 5 allowed.

Summon Hakeasher/ Nisheru - I never liked these spells, although if your desperately getting hammered by a mage they could come in useful.

Summon Dijinni/ Efreeti - These are good. But I still do not see any advantage of summoning a Dijinni. Efreeti's are more powerful in my estimation. You can pickpocket am Efreeti bottle in Tradmeet from the goon outside the Genie's tent.

Gate - gets a bad press for some reason but all you need is a group protection from evil and they can certainly weaken a strong opposing party before you send yourself or other summoned monsters in.

Call Woodland Beings - only useful to low level parties

Summon Insects/ Insect Plague - handy against mages

Aerial Servant - Another good tank, much like the Invisable Stalker.

And there we have it... I dare you to disagree with me.

Re using gate and so forth. Maybe I'm being picky, but gated critters kill without the benefit of my getting the xp and that kind of bugs me. On the other hand, you can always summon / kill yer gated nasty (he won't fight back if you have prot from evil) and get his xp, I suppose.

Also, someone mentioned earlier about summoning a sword spider to use in conjunction with web. My spidies got held (and I read in another thread that folks shape-shifted to sword spider have similar results) - bummer.

I've got to go with the air and fire elementals as being my favorite summoned dudes.

Indeed I like gate spells. The demon it summons looks awesome, and it has considerable power. I personally would vote for the summon fiend spell because the spells of the Glabrezu are harmless to a protected party member(dispel magic, power word stun)
But the Pit Fiend starts with a fireball with 15D6 damage and continuosly casts symbol of death(sigh..)a real danger for everyone as you can see.

I ignore the other summoning spells however, because of the brilliant death spell which I use all the time/thanks to Parvini!/ and so does my enemies in the game.

I let Jaheira summon two fire elementals and Viconia summons two aeiral servants, if I need tanks. Elementals are great, because they require +2 or better weapons to hit, they have many-many hit points, a good THAC0 and they do a lot of damage.

Aerial Servant is my favorite! Clerics can cast 'em and he kicks ass! He has a lot of hitpoints and does hits of about 25 damage!!
    I love the guy!
