    Saw this movie last night. It wasn't great, but it wasn't nearly as bad as some of the critics had written. It was more of an homage to the movies that I grew up on (set in 1979/1980 the main characters were in middle school, which is exactly where I was at that time).

    The music was a trip, and a lot of the set design brought back the feeling of the times (at least for me). I felt that Abrams was a little too self-conscious about that and could have been more subtle, but, all in all, I liked it.

    I imagine, however, that if you are in your mid-20's or younger, you might have a different view, because the nostalgia factor goes away and it's just another monster movie featuring kids and bad-guy government types.

    Anyone else see it?

    I thought the child actors were amazing and loved that part of the movie. The alien bit was meh. I'd rather the whole movie just be a coming of age movie for the children and excise the whole alien storyline out.

    And I'm actually mid-20s and liked the setting and music of the movie alot.
