I am playing BG+ToSC and red in a walkthrough that prices are modified somehow by having two party members with reputation over 18.

    My party includes
-Ajantis Charisma 21 (Algernon's Cloak + Tome of Leadership + helm of Bauduran)
-Defspeal (me) Charisma 19 (Nymph hair cloak)

However, it makes no difference to the price of a healing potion for instance. If it take my protagonists cloak off it cost 50gp and with it on it also costs 50gp. I have a reputation of 20.
Does price modification thingy only affect certain items??

Well, try to take off Ajantis equipment aswell.
I think the price is set by the highest Charisma you got in your party.
Not sure though, but it might be worth a try.

I thought the price was set by the person who actually started the conversation with the shopkeeper.

I think you're asking two separate questions here: 1. Does reputation affect prices? 2. Does charisma affect prices? The answer to both of these is yes.

With repuation it's a percentage. It starts out at around a 10% price reduction with reputation around 15, and it maxes out at a 50% reduction with a reputation of 20. I do not know what the exact percentages are for charisma, but the higher the charisma, the higher the discounts. AFAIK, it makes absolutely no difference how many different people have a high charisma, as prices are dictated by the person in your group with the highest charisma. I do not think there is any cumulative affect of having two characters with a high charisma.

Aldeth is right about all of this. Except, I do believe that the 'highest Charisma' is not what the game takes into account. I'm relatively sure it's the Charisma of the character that initiated the dialogue with the shopkeeper.

Well, I can't say this entirely for sure, but I'm pretty confident in it: the only charisma that matters is that of the lead character. This is the character that's on top in the portraits on the right side of the screen. Even if somebody else initiates dialog to the shopkeeper. I know this to be different in BGII, but I think it's this way in BGI.

You guys may be right - I think it is the lead character in the party. Regardless, when going into a shop it's easy enough to make sure the person with the highest charisma is the one who's doing the buying - just switch up the marching order before initiating dialog. I think I confused the way it works in BG2 with the way it works in BG1. I wonder if it changes to the BG2 way if you have BGTuTu installed? My guess is yes. The point is, I don't think there's any way to get a bonus affect for having multiple characters with high charisma.

It's the lead character that counts when you enter an area.
    The effect is set then.
If you switch after entering it's no good.

Make sure it's a mage with good Charisma and the friends spell. :D
