Yes. The two series have a LOT in common. The later books of both series have plotmovement at have the speed of a slug.

And that's aside from all the huge similarities in storyline.

Ahk! Dont even mention those two in the same breath! WoT may have its problem with sluggish movements in the last few books but it is light years ahead of Goodkind's rubbish. At first I found Goodkind to be quite good but it is impossible to look by his blatant rip-offing. Jordan and all fantasy writers may borrow a lot from everywhere but Goodkind steals right off without making much changes. There isnt really a concept in his stories that is his own. My main peeve with Goodkind though is his complete inconsistency, nothing ever really makes sense in his books. His world is completely unlogical (compared to other fantasy worlds who all are unlogical by default). He has no storyline, it is funny that the bad guy went from supermage to more or less the devil himself and then to a mere dude who can walk in dream and the last one is the most problem. I atleast prefer a story with one consistant bad guy so we get one story or atleast bad guýs of raising power. From Rahl to the lord of the underworld worked but Jagang is just silly. The magic system started out pretty interesting but is now a completely chaotic mess impossible to make sense of.

Richard's complete lack of power for most of hte time except when the story demands that he has power and he gets more powerful than Elminster and Rand Al'Thor combined also bugs me. Lat but not least in this rant I have point out Goodkind's clumsy and blatant political propaganda. Faith of the Fallen is one long anti-socialistic pamphlet, and a bad one at that. Goodkind sounds like McCarthy during the 60's.

Despire all this, despite that Goodkind is a rip-off and a lousy writer, world builder and story teller the Sword of Truth is somewhat entertaining. Probably due to my own extreme bias in favouring mostly anything fantasy but he is entertaining in the same way a Chuck Norris movie is. Entertaining as long as you just watch or read without thinking but as soon as you reflect over what you read you get a sour taste in your mouth.

I started reading the Sword of Truth series once. It was so painfully bad I ended up throwing the book in the dustbin so I wouldn't find myself ever tempted to try it again.

The Wheel of Time has gone pretty much downhill in recent years but it was okay for the first half dozen books. Sword of Truth sucked right from page 1.

The two things that got to me the most was that sword people who are very much like the aiel, actually both them and the mudpeople are a variation on the a concept. However that concept is used often but I atleast found Goodkind's use of it unusually unimaginative.

The second is the all female magician order and their binding of male magic users. If that is not Aes Sedai I do now know what is.
