[IMG] I've found this great stone carved 60cm (24") Katana, here in Bali for sale. It cost 5,600,000 rp, which is about $US600.
Is this a good price? Or is it over priced?

    check www.swords-online.com

I'd say it's overpriced, but then it's made of stone so I don't know if that's more expensive.

    Hah, overpriced? Please!

The Katana I am trying to gety will cost 3000 euros, and it will ONLY be that cheap because the blade has a cosmetic flaw that cannot be undone. (It's still frekakishly good...) One such blade without blemishes would cost me 8000 euros.

And they aren't even *real* katanas, for they aren't Japanese for one. Those, the REAL Japanese katanas are 20 000+ euros.

    Yes, I obsess.

I am turning 8 in three months... three months to try to cajole people into getting that blade for me!

    Thanks a lot!
Here, there are many many cheaper than that, and from my small knowledge of swords they are okish.
My brother brought one today for what would be around $US40. Everything is so cheap here, but that was a metal one.

I'm still deciding wether or not to get this one. It's such a amazing thing, so if I do get it, you will soon see a photo in photo album.

Out of curiosity, what is the appeal of owning a sword? I mean, it's not practical. And although I imagine it would serve as a fine piece of artwork, I have a gut feeling that's not what you guys generally have in mind.

Asides from that, I'm going to say what I've said before: you're all interested, in large, hard, handheld objects. Freud would have a field day with ya'll.

Simple: It's a SWORD. it's sharp, it's pointy, and it's a weapon. and ELEGEANT one. Besides, swords have killed more people than guns :D

To be honest, I think for me itr's a way to satisfy my inner elf. I can't move to Middle-Earth, (or Faerun, or any other cool place) so I just have to gather as much associated crap ariound me...

Again, I blame the inner elf....

It's very hard to get a license to own a gun around where I live but it's surprisingly easy to own a sword. Besides, most accidents happen with people shooting themselves or family memebers but what are the odds of that happpening with a sword.

I actually heard some people who were drunk, and one tried to chop the other's head off with a sword... a sucky sword, so the result was merely stitches.

Had it been a PROPER sword... Anyone want to imagine the cleaning bill?

I heard a story on Darwin Awards about some people who were drunk and..

One decides to prove he's macho and cuts off his foot with a chainsaw, the other one decides to prove he's more macho and cuts off his head. Verified to be true by the way.

The swords I have are partly for decoration and mostly because swords are cool! They are not sharp because sharp swords are illegal here, but maybe I'll sharpen them myselves someday...
I bought my swords in Prague while on holiday, but this shop now also sells via internet. check it out: www.kkart.cz

It was a fine sword indeed.
And yes, it was a fine piece of artwork, but it also felt like it would match up to one of those other swords any day.

I went to buy it and was just paying the money when I saw some ivory on it. So I couldn't get it, because it's impossible to bring ivory into New Zealand.

Maybe when I'm older and have some more money at my disposal I'll find away of getting one of them.

rastlin, gun licenses aren't that hard to get. Go down to Murrarie to the shooters club and apply for a junior (or regular if your 18+) gun license. You will need to pass a shooting test, and will require adult approval if you aren't 18+. Then it takes about 2 weeks to process. It's not THAT hard, but you can only get semi-auto pistols and revolvers, along with rifles and shotguns. Nothing else. No more automatic weapons for us, I'm afraid.

But you wouldn't want to do that. What you'd really want to do is to get your self a nice bow and join the local archery club!
    Beats a gun any day!

Actually guns fire faster and need less training.

Swords are a nice decoration, especially when collected to small groups and hanged to wall. ;) Also, it's always good to have something "longer than hand" at home -just in case...
