[IMG] Tears are fear made flesh. You can't touch fear but you can touch tears.

Fear is not always the same as being scared of something pain is a form of fear and so is loss. In a twisted way.

If you miss someone that much that you cry then that is a sign of fear, fear of being alone, fear of no longer charing a connection.

But fear couls also make you stronger.

What is your vision of fear?

My vision of fear is less poetical.

There are various levels of fear.

In the most basic sense, it's an emotion caused by some subconscious supposition of odds being against you and possible harm. This one is both emotional and rational. You have every reason to fear when four armed thugs cross your way, don't you?

Fear can also be more emotional and less rational. For instance, people may fear confrontation regardlessly of the odds. Or unless they clearly are going to prevail and come out intact. This is very characteristic of people with relevant disorders.

Fear can also be on a more mental level - ie, in situations where there's nothing physical to fear. People can fear those even if they don't fear any physical confrontation.

A more intellectual fear is when you aren't really affected by any physical symptoms, but you realise the bad odds and the possible consequences seem so bad that you choose to avoid action, or to give in to blackmail, or whatever.

I realise my reasoning has a couple of flaws here, but I can't explain it any better. What matters for me is if you control the fear or not. Courage is not in being unable to fear. Courage is in being able to control fear and prevent it from taking you over.

    Now, something to ponder:

John is walking down an empty street at night with his girlfriend. Three thugs with knives approach him and demand his money. He doesn't like the idea of getting stabbed, but what would his girlfriend think about his manhood if he handed his wallet? So he fights.

Was that heroic? Hardly. The fear of getting stabbed was reasonable and the probability of it happening was overwhelming. However, the irrational fear of being regarded as less male by his girlfriend was so prevalent that he ignored his own and her safety, giving up the control of his mind.

So, he succumbed to fear. If he had given the money to the thugs, he would not necessarily have succumbed to fear, though he still might.

Well, for me, the only fear I have felt (or maybe the only fear I have acknowledged) is the fear of losing both my sons. I mean, as you may have read in the 'getting dumped' thread, I have a hearing coming up to defend against an AVO and I'm right now quite unwell with fear over it. I also have legal proceedings going on in Family Court to get Access visits with my eldest son in place and I'm 99% of the time a little afraid when going to court about that. Mind you, once i'm in the Court Room I'm like ice, it's the getting there that terrifies me.

So, to me, I guess fear is tied to losing family through some means and feeling alone, feeling lie a failure, feeling like I let my family down.
