I am having a problem with my computer: I can never do a full install on any computer game. It's not only BG1, but this is the game I'm most interested in having a full install on. I used to be able to, and I know I have enough Hard Drive space for these games.

This most recently happened when I tried to do a full install of BG1. The first disc installs just fine, and then the computer asks for the second disc. I eject the first disc and put the second disc in, which is where my problem occurs. The program doesn't respond after that, and I'm basically screwed. I am able to play the game if I'd like, by doing a minimum install, but that's annoying because I need to switch discs a lot and I can't install mods like Tutu.

Please help me if you can.

    TIA

PS: if this belongs in the tech forum, I apologize. But if it's moved, please LMK in a PM!

I looked, but I can't find the thread that told how to do a manual full install, but it involved manually copying the content of the CDs to your hard drive. I don't remember what to do next, but I would think that you can then just open the setup.exe and direct it to install from the hard drive instead of the disk.

I don't think this belongs in the tech forum, but I think it was supposed to go in the BG1 forum.

Remove what remnants of BG1 are on your computer and then make sure that it's gone from your system registry, too. You can either do it manually or use a registry cleaner. If you use the registry cleaner, don't pay for it. There are plenty of good ones available as freeware.

I've used a registry cleaner to try for a completely fresh BG1 install, but I can't get the thing to work.

After uninstalling, is there any special way for me to get the whole thing to work?

BTW, I know this is BG1 related, but I want to use EasyTutu, and I know even mentioning this mod gets the thread ejected into this forum... I just figured I'd save the Mods the trouble. ;)

EDIT: Although I'm currently trying to get BG1 installed, I've had this problem in the past, and solved it by only doing a minimal install with a different game, "Icewind Dale." It's also worth noting that I haven't always had this problem with these same discs or this same computer. It just won't work for me now.

I think it's a problem with the CD drive. The question is, how can I fix that?

Any truth that anti-virus software can interfere?

Definitely - you should try turning it off when you're attempting the installs.

Okay, cool! Hopefully this is the problem I've been encountering.

    I never would have known!

I'll have access to the discs next week, and hopefully have a full, clean install of BG1 and 2 and be able to do the whole Tutu thang! :)

You should try just installing in safe mode - that way there'll be nothing running in the background that could cause problems.

Alright... but does Safe Mode stop my anti-virus from running?

It should, but you should still check just in case.
