Does anyone know where I can find good techno or electronic music? I know that the best is from europe but unfortunately I'm in the US and I cant find many foreign techno CD's. I also tried napster but I'm not sure which bands or DJ's to look for. Any info would be helpful.

Ahhh FINALLY, I have been waiting for someone else who likes the same music as me to come on the boards for ages :D Right, Techno names for you to research:

Carl Cox - He's pretty much the worlds number one Techno Dj IMO. Phil Kieran - promotes one hell of a sound, can do full out percussive madness to more musical, melody based techno, veeery good. Slam - A DJ duo, remixed more Techno and tech House than I have had hot dinners, keep a very unique sound going, always gona remain one of my favourites. Finally I'd recommend John Selway, he plays mostly VERY hard percussive stuff, nosebleed inducing even. But he is a very good DJ and has many sides. I recommend buying all this off amazon, because they will have it all.

I gave you DJ names instead of producers as you can get a far better and more diverse sound within the genre that way. You use the term "Electronic" music, I use that too, instead of the awfull term "dance" music. So naturally that term encompases a hell of alot of genres. So if you want more information then just throw a few genre names at me, (you only gave me techno so far, so i replied accordingly). But if you want anything more, i'd be happy to help ;)

Try to get your hands on some Amon Tobin stuff. It's a bit on the mellow side but it's all really good.

I am more into House nowadays but 10 years ago I prefered Techno. And Sven Väth blew my mind on a regular basis. Ah, the Barbarella Partys. Check him out. Then there is Ralf Hildenbeutel. I also enjoyed Oliver Bondzio.

Hope this is of help. Sadly I dont know too many labels etc.

[IMG] Just a few artist that make techno and made it into my mostly metal collection:

Mouse On Mars, Kosheen, The Bezerker, Atari Teenage Riot, Orbital, The Prodigy, The Crystal Method, Junkie XL and of course: Lungworm! Also look for the 5 techno songs from Cradle Of Filth!

Well, this sorta counts: Static-X... Mixing techno with metal (and being one of the VERY fes elctronic acts I like). Also Daft Punk, if you dont know them, has made some good stuff.

There is one thing you have to listen to, if you haven't already. The fathers of all techno and electonic music : Kraftwerk! It's a german band, who started doing electronic in the late 70's. Considering the time and technological limits, what they did is really wicked!

Don't forget Chemical Brothers, it's a must. Also check Ramasutra. It's a mix of electronic and indian music, really interesting! :) I also heard Plastik Man is something to hear, although I still didn't have time to listen to it myself...

Get you're hands on anything from a dude who goes by the name of Tycho. His first LP The Science of Patterns is absolutely amazing.

Also, here is a list of the best chill groups (best songs specified) out there, IMO.
Goes like this: Artist - Song, Song, etc.

Ape - Meridian Blue, Lost Echo, Fallen (Slight Return).
Kruder & Dorfmeister - Speechless Drum & Bass, Useless (with Depeche Mode), Going Under (with Rocker's HiFi) (the 8 minute one I prefer), Deep **** Pt 1 & 2.
Air - All I Need, Caramel Prisoner.
Massive Attack - Tear Drop, Angel.
    Telepopmusik - Breathe, Trishika.
Royksopp - In Space, Remind Me, Eple, So Easy.
DJ Krush - Le Temps (feat. DJ Cam), Kemuri + El Condora Pasa, Ilektrik, Ha-Doh (with Toshinori Kondo).
Amon Tobin - 4 Ton Mantis, Easy Muffin, Defocus.

There's more, much much much more, but I'm sick of digging through my Mp3's and CDs looking for them :p

The stuff we're giving out is great...but I don't think the original poster has even bothered to take any note of it. Seeing as not so much as a "thankyou guys" has been said...

@Gehn, it doesn't really matter anymore. We're just exchanging names to develop our own tastes.. ;)

And I forgot two : Meatball Manifesto and Velvet Acid Christ! :D

Yeah I suppose you're right, still, It really annoys me when people take time to write replies and no appreciation is shown for them!

Also, don't you mean "Meat Beat manifesto" not "meat ball"?

If anyone hasn't checked this grade "A" superstar who goes by the name Agoria out, then you reALLY should. One hell of a progressive french techno, house, tech house mystro, electro supreme'o. Produces tunes so mellow they'd make a person attempting suicide stop and see how wonderfull life is, and his more trademark, truly solid groove, subliminal tuneage. Check him out.
