The Daystar, Mace of Disrupion and Azuredge are nice against all undead.
The daystar is in the back of the crooked crane inn in the city gates. It's behind a hidden door in the top (north east I think) of the room. A lich is guarding it, but if you run past him, grab the weapon, use it's sunray ability, there's a good chance the lich'll die.

The Mace of Disruption is in Bodhi's Lair in Chapter 3 and I think you can buy Azuredge in the Copper Coronet after doing the slaver quest.

You should also keep an eye out for items with level drain or negative plane protection. The spell negative plane protection will also protect you from level drain.
If all else fails, you can use protection from undead scrolls.

[IMG] The priest spell "False Dawn" is very good against vampires. Definitely use this spell when fighting Bodhi.

You might want to have your priest memorize restoration. That's pretty nice to cast on your guys in the middle of the fight.

The best way is to have one of your NPC's run around with an amulet of power on to gather all the vampires around in one area, then cast Sunray and False Dawn if you can. That should kill all but the most powerfull vampires, and even then they will be pretty close to dieing...again. :rolling:

If your cleric is high enough level, (s)he could turn undead... although by then you could probably cast Sunray already.

If you have a Undead Hunter, let him do most of the melee work.

Finally, the cheap way to win is to just lure them out one by one using the 'fog of war', close the door to isolate the vampire and hack him up.

an undead hunter who is proficient in mace and sword&shield style should pound any undead to death :)

of course, you take proficiency in two handed weapons & style to use carsomyr when not fighting undead (but you know this).

the sword and shield style allows your undead hunter to use the shield of balduran which again allows your hunter to be lethal to beholders as well as undead.

Scroll of protection from undead means that they will ignore the protected character, but make sure you have +3 weapons to get the bigger vampires which are worth more xp. And never let them turn to bats since they are worth too much xp to allow to flee.

    What?
The only time I can remember that happening is in Irenicus' Dungeon.

Anyway, back on the subject. Some other tactics:
    - Area damage spells if there are more than one vampire.
    - Chaotic Commands to defend against the very annoying Domination often cast by vampires.
    - Shield of Harmony - IMO the best shield in SoA - will also protect against Domination.
    - Summoned monsters to draw the vampires off your characters.

    My latest way:
Minsc armed with the talking sword when the vampire is far away(protect against domination) and mace of disruption+2 when they are near, and Jaheira armed with gnasher, armulet of power and shield of harmony.

Restoration is handy to have to restore levels if you've been drained, but that's all. It's not a buffing or protection spell.

I feel it necessary to mention that Azuredge is worthless unless you have it patched -- it doesn't perform as advertised for some strange, glitchy reason.

Doesn't Arin Linvail give you a cool necklace at the start of Chapter 3 that bestows negative plane protection, as well as Vocalize and 5% magic resistance? Can't remember what it's called. Amulet of Power maybe?

Earl Grey, I mean the cloud things, not bats. Just lapse of memory. Sorry.

Just don't let them go all wimpy and run off just because you are more powerful and want the xp...

It works great for Vampires unpatched. Other undead are another matter though.

Yes, but it's only good to protect mages or clerics because no fighter-type can use it. It is nice to have your cleric wear it.

Greater restoration completely heals your entire party, which is great in a nasty fight. I've lost more characters to level drain than I can count though. Trust me, one or two is worth it.

Lesser and greater restoration affects one player only. Greater restoration cures/heals a great number of afflictions (feeblemind, restore levels, insanity, heal, etc) but it offers no protection from level drain, feeblemind, insanity, etc. There is no benefit to casting it before a battle.

Are you sure about that Greater Restoration data, Spelladonna? I've always been under the impression that it does a number on your whole party -- the spell description says it only affects one person, but in reality I think it does more. But the rest of that is right -- it offers no protection from anything -- it just solves problems after the fact.

In any event, I would have to say that my favorite way to kill Vampires is to turn them with a high level cleric. I like the way they explode.
