[IMG] Ok, so at my work each lot that I work with have a "scribe" on it, which is either a 4 or 5 letter word to make identifacation of the lot and the wafers within.

That said, I think the person who comes up with the scribes is a BoM member. This past week, I've been keeping an eye out for familiar names of BoM members, and so far, I've seen these member's names:

    Aces
    Balle
    Benan
    Beren
Bhaal <-- Not sure if there's a member names 'Bhaal', but I know there's a Son of Bhaal
    Bion
    Blog
    Chev
    Crawl
    Death <-- Deathmage, Death Rabbit??
Dmsee <-- sound it out and you have dmc
    Drew
    Elios
Faraz <-- Missing an 'a' but close enough
    Hugo
    Nakia
    Noble <-- Nobleman??
    Saber
Servo <-- I haven't seen 'Sorvo' but I 've called him Servo once or twice...
    Shell
    Shura
    Spell <-- Spellbound??
    Teekc
    Ziad

That's all I have so far...but we move about 9000 lots a night, so I'm sure this number will go up over time... I just though it was weird how many BoM nicks I was seeing at my work. Maybe it's really Mystra from #sorcerers that's generating the scribs...

And yes, there are several times when it's so slooooow that I have nothing better to do than write the scribes I see down on paper. :rolling:

Or maybe SP members are choosing their nicknames based on your work. Ever thought of that?

But, like your last post in RBP, I have no idea what a scribe, lot, or wafer is.

9000 lots a night? And you're saying each lot has a name? At that rate, all the names here would be exhausted in little more than one night... With a number that high I also doubt anyone is making them up, it's far more likely the names are randomly picked off some huge list and just happened to coincide with some of the names here.

But anyway, you should ask at work how exactly those names are assigned and by whom and it should all be clear.

    What, no Feli? :shake:

I have to echo Tal too, but another piece of me wonders exactly how many possibilities there are.

    26^4 + 26^5 = 456,976 + 11,881,376 = 12,338,352
    12,338,352 / 9000 = 1370.928

Wow. I take it back, that's a lot of possibilities. And it looks like it'd take about four years to run out, maybe five if it only runs on weekdays. But what would they do then?

Ok, lets start with the wafer. It's a very thin piece of silicon that's about thickness of a credit card, and is 150mm in diameter. A "scribe" is a 4-5 letter word that is laser etched on to each and ever wafer for easy identification to its box which also has the scribe printed on it. There are 24 wafers to a lot. Easy as that...

    I've seen Felix...does that count?

Also, I had my numbers mixed up, we move about 9000 *wafers* a night which is only 375 lots a night. Last night was busy as all hell and at the end of the night, our score keeper said we had moved over 10,000 wafers, which is about 417 lots.

I did ask about the scribe names and it turns out that a computer program with a few filters assigns the scribes to the lots. So it *IS* possible that Mystra is the one doing this... :hahaerr: One the downside, I'll never see a 'F**k' or S**t' scribe.

Oh and fel, your math formula needs to be edited, change the 9000 to 375 (for a normal night) and you get: 33035.605 :p

And now that you've got my calculator at the ready, here's another scary number. Each wafer can hold up to 4,000 "die" all of which will eventually become a single microchip! There are some wafers that can hold a hell of a lot more…We don't get too many of those, but I do see them on a regular basis. Anyway, the average wafer can hold about 4000 chips...so we'll use that number.
(4000*24)375 = 36,000,000! Now, on an average night each area, (there are at least 10) will break at least one wafer per day/night. I don't have the exact numbers but that'll give you an rough idea of how many microchips we can produce. :rolling:

Hmm, more than 90 years then, even if it were going 7 days a week. That'll last a while, then.

And no, Felix doesn't count. :p Though I do have a few of his movies. ;)

Ok, to help you guys understand my job, here are some pictures:

    Your standard 6" wafer
This is your basic 6" wafer. Each square pattern is an individual microchip. These chips are about twice the size of our biggest chips. The flat part of the wafer is where the lot number and 'scribe' are found.

Your typical 8 inch wafer lot
We only work with 6 inch wafers, so our lot boxes are smaller. That's also sort of how I look when I'm in my "bunny suit"...except I have cooler looking safty glasses...

A standard furnace used to "grow" Silicon Oxide
These bad boys heat the wafers up to 1100 degrees C, and flow gas into the tube that helps SiO2 grow in the wafers. Some furnaces also coat the wafers with various thin films.

Here's a schematic of our Spray Acid Tool
To understand how it works, we basically places 6 lots of wafers in it, lying horizontal, close the lid, and it goes through cycles of spraying: H2SO4, HF, HCL, H2O2, and NH4OH on the wafers to clean them.

So now you all have a basic understanding of the basics of my job.

And Ofelix, you need to read more carefully... :rolling:
