I often hear people raving about slavatore's Drizzt novels. Personally, I have found the character development, plot, and originallity all surpassing his drizzt novels, anyone agree with me?

well i have to agree somewhat with u....the plot and everything in the cleric quintet seem more in-depth and refined....but he did write the cleric quintet later than the dark elf trilogy so he prolly learned some new tricks along the way.....

yeah actually i do prefer the cleric quintet and ive always liked the idea of a god-blessed character.....jus gives me a rush to see them in action..=)

Sorry for the negative response, but there's no way anyone could convince me that the Cleric Quintet is better than the Drizzt novels (in my opinion). The Cleric Quintet was not as detailed and entertaining as the Drizzt novels. The Quintet also seemed to be too melodramatic for my tastes. The whole "becoming more powerful than my evil father" theme has been used, along with the "rival in my shadow who becomes my arch-enemy" theme (the last one). The love theme with Danica wasn't bad, completely different than the Wulfgar - Catti-Brie and Drizzt - Catti-Brie themes.

I don't really think it's a question of better. They are quite different, and really they are part of the same story. I like them equally, though I did read the cleric quintet quite some time after I read all the drizzt books. Perhaps if I reread them I would change my mind.

Dude, you can't get more original than Drizzt. The Quintet is great, but the characters don't have the charisma of Drizzt, Artemis and Jarlaxle.
For me, Danica is too much like Catti-brie.
The only thing that is better (for sure) is the comedy part with Ivan and Pikel.

The bad guys in the book suck; both Rufo and Ghost are essentially weak and unable to do any real harm to Cadderly. Rufo gets kicked all over the place, except in the fifth book, but that's not really Rufo, is it?

The Quintet is really good, but not as good as Drizzt & Co., especially in books like Homeland, Servant of the Shard, Starless Night...
