The failiure of the Orange Revolution

    In 2004 the so called Orange Revolution swept through Ukraine and the rigged presidental elections were renewed and the pro-west Viktor Yushchenko was decleared the winner over pro-Russian Viktor Yanukovych. Since then the Orange Revolution has had tough times living up to its promises. Internal strife and corruption allegations have diminished it's power and Viktor Yanukovych made a succesful comeback in 2006 parliamentary elections and became the prime minister.

    Since then he has been at odds with the president and now when Yushchenko's supporters have started to switch sides within the parliament the president has decided to dissolve the parliament and arrange new elections. Yanukovych and his supporters are boycotting this decision and the supporters of both the president and the prime minister are once again out on the streets. Is it now time for a counter-revolution? Or can the Orange Revolution survive?

    Personally I can't help but to feel disappointed by these events and at the revolution which seems to have failed to live up to its promises. I do hope that the pro-west movement prevails but to me it seems that the president is getting desperate.
