The Last Movie You Watched #2

The first Matrix is definitely the best, I always thought the two sequels weren't that well balanced.

I've just watched The Pope of Greenwich Village, Mickey Rourke's performance was incredible. Some actors are really good but he is one of a kind.

 

That movie was aces! Rourke's best performance by far.

 

Hmm, last two I watched were:

There Will Be Blood - the conclusion was thoroughly enjoyable Hooohhahhaaa! I'm drinking your milkshake!

Incredible Hulk - meh, but not awful...

 

I saw Stardust yesterday.

A very enjoyable adventure/fantasy flick IMO.

Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes and Robert De Niro is having a ball in it.

 

2012. Quick capsule review: Piece of ****. Between tsunamis high enough to engulf the Mount Everest, really bad acting, childish display of drama, and just another movie that will keep people incredible stupid about something as basic as the scientific process. The only good thing was the explosion of the Yellowstone caldera and the subsequent death of Woody Harrelson. The whole 3 minutes of it.
You know, the Maya were unfamiliar with fractions and thus only had a solar calendar of 365 days, but they were still 'scientifically advanced' enough to foresee the next mass solar expulsion of neutrinos which would cause an unstabilizing effect on the iron core of the earth! I'm totally swallowing that! Not. A nice citation from a review I read somewhere on the Internetz: Let’s just say that someone from the last Bush administration may have been hired as scientific consultant. Also, the movie was going to be about the end of the world, but the world was still there at the end of the movie so that's just another mayor disappointment. They will probably release a sequel to fix that error.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Yes, good movie! Predictable plot but Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep did some very nice acting. Yes, Jim Carrey and acting in one sentence without even a negation, are you buying this? The toddler with her biting/'talking' was quite funny and the setting was good too. This dark eerie setting reminds me of something but I just cannot put my finger on it (Melancholia? Film noirish? Tim Burton perhaps? )

 

Just saw Pirates of Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl again.

Heheh. Always good!

 

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra: Average action flick that delivered exactly what I wanted - cool effects, sick guns, and Rachel Nichols. Yes, it was one big cliche, yes the dialogue was cheesy, but it was significantly better than Transformers 2, which made a boatload more... I don't get America. If you're going to choose a cheesy/cliche action flick, pick the better one!

Also saw The Grinch, Jim Carrey's worst movie. Some good jokes, mostly crap.

 

Just watched Rear Window. I now have new respect for Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart. Wonderful performance by the latter, and finally a Hitchcock movie I care about! I think it was due to the script; I really liked the two main characters, so when things actually started getting tense, it felt tense for me too - his other movies have failed to inspire that in me (although Vertigo is due another watching, I've heard it gets better the second or third time).

Also, whoever writes his screenplays have very clever dialogue - the dialogue in this and the Birds particularly stood out.

 

I'm glad you liked Rear Window Saber! Try to watch North by Northwest, you should enjoy it.

I've watched Star Wars Episode 1, 2 and 3. I'll probably watch the old trilogy before the end of the year. The romance stuff is still as crappy as it gets but I think Ewan Mac Gregor did a really fine job with his impersonation of Obi Wan Kenobi and the scene in which Kenobi confronts Anakin Skywalker after their fight is clearly the best scene in the new trilogy.

 

Just finished Hangover on DVD. That's one of the funniest movie I've seen.

 

Just got back from Avater in IMAX. It was incredible. Yes, the story was unoriginal (basically Disney's Pocahontas), and yes, he DID name the MacGuffin "Unobtanitum," but the visuals were stunning, the acting was decent, and it inspired quite a bit of emotion from me - I nearly cried in a theatre with 400 people!

 

The Mouse That Roared with Peter Sellers. I didn't know what it was about and only watched it because Peter Sellers lead the cast and it turned out to be a pleasant movie.

 

I saw Alvin and the chipmunks 2... Needless to say it was not my choice. My girlfriend and I did an activity with her niece and nephew (5 and 8 years old). Why is it that the plot in every children movie has been written my a monkey? Would the children freak out if they saw a movie that made sense?

 

Hot Fuzz. I can't stop watching it every time it's on TV.

 

Try to watch those children movies by Hayao Miyazaki... even the adults would love them.

Miyazaki is good, definitely. Not worthy of the Twilight-like obsession some people have for him, but most of his films are worth watching and are very enjoyable.

 

Saw Beerfest yesterday. While very silly, it was also funny.

Saw Waiting... today. Brilliant. Really hilarious.

 

To Catch a Thief. Not particularly good (had good dialogue, but the story was crap), but Grace Kelly is smokin'!
