The Onion? Is that some kind of news report on onions?

Todays top story! Onions eaten by Oasama! Clue to his wearabouts?

I clicked on the link and now I am a bit confused. This seems to be an american side "America's Finest News Source". But the thing I don't understand is why I get german advertisments for an online casino. It could be because I have a german provider and the webiside notices it. But I always thought the advertisments are the same for all who look at the side. Does anybody know how this works?

  10. Yes! The onion is hilarious!

We have a similar thing in the UK, called Private Eye.

[IMG] just recently a 'Streetwise Vendor' tried to sell me a copy of The Onion for five bucks. five bucks man! i laughed in his face and just walked away.

  12. I don't read The Onion on a regular basis, truth be told, but I own a collection of The Onion articles, a book called Dispatches From the Tenth Circle. (Article shown on cover: Tenth Circle Added to Rapidly Growing Hell ;))

    Anyone have that book?

[IMG] Hey the eleven-what do you do in Chicago? Streetwise vendors can be pretty high pressure. Chicago was the only place I've ever been exposed to an attempted up-sell at the White Hen: "Would you like a Mars bar with that paper, or perhaps some other type of candy", word for word, I swear. It was at Sheffield and Diversey.

LOL Orkrist! you have the street wise rap down perfectly. I work in the Loop, at the Board of Trade to be exact. when I'm in the Loop in the evening, I find it impossible to walk a block without being offered a street wise. and yeah it's a high pressure situation. the vendors strategically place themselves outside a White Hen as you said, or a Walgreens, or even restaurants. they know you have money, so what do you do...give up a couple of cigs instead. works for me.

[IMG] The Onion is brillant! One of the funnist publication ever. I love their historical stuff. Our Dumb Century was extremely creative.

  16. Our Dumb Century, hmmm . . . I didn't read that one. I skimmed through it in an airport bookstore, but the inky early 1900s print killed my eyes. When it got to around the '70s, it got better, though.
