I just saw it and while it got draggy during certain scenes, I enjoyed it (of course I was already a fan of the broadway production). I think the guy that played the phantom was awesome, you could feel the tension every time he came on screen and you couldn't help but symmpathize with him and pity him in the end (his being a total psycho notwithstanding).

Anybody else see it already? What'd you think about it?

On a side note, would somebody please ressurect my John Constantine: Hellblazer thread :) I just saw the movie, thought it was awesome, and would like to discuss it with others that have too, but I can't bring it back to the top of the list because I was the last one that posted a few weeks ago :sosad:

Horrible singing, wooden acting do not make a great movie for me. I was very disappointed, it was worse the the Dario Argento version. I shall stick to the theatre productions.

Still I am glad that you got enjoyment out of it.

I tend to agree with you on the acting part but I found the singing pretty good actually. Of course I don't listen to a lot of opera/broadway music so I can't really give an informed opinion.

I thought that the singing was generally good - the Phantom screwed up The Phantom of the Opera though (the song, that is...) - and some bits came out far better in the original cast recording. On the other hand, I think Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again was sung better in the movie (no Bravo Monsieur though, which is kinda tragic considering how utterly cool that bit is :) )

No complaints on the acting though...

With the exception of the Phantom I didn't enjoy the acting all that much, but it wasn't all that bad. Nice touch showing that he was still alive in the end, but those "flashforward" scenes didn't really make much sense til the end :/

His regular mask and the mask he wore during the masquerade ball were awesome though.

Gerard Butler can act; the ptroblem is that he can't sing at all.

The movie was quite enjoyable in its spectacularness, but I wish I had brought earplugs. I literally whimpered during the title song.

    :p

I found his singing pretty good though. Except when, as Aikanaro has pointed out, he butchered the Phantom of the Opera (the song)

Haven't seen the movie. Got to see the last performance in Chicago -- it was great. Anybody ever play the "Return of the Phantom" pc game? It was actually pretty fun.
