I just installed some components of the Tactics mod and I have started 'The Ritual'. I already beat the acid kensai and the 'poison encounter' pretty easily, so I must not be completely stupid, but I just keep dying at that Ritual mission.

Or rather, my archer (I play multiplayer) is dying, permanently. Even if I have True Sight on, there is always some stupid assassin guy backstabbing her for 196 (instant killing her permanently). I don't know why they always target her, but it doesn't really matter, because any of my characters would die from such an attack.

I already tried having my fighter/thief running across the map with True Sight and potions of invisibility and backstabbing every assassin he spots. I also had my protagionist sorcerer cast true sight, so my remaining 5 partymembers couldn't be surprise attacked (at least, that was the idea). This actually worked pretty well, until, guess what, my archer got backstabbed... WTF  .

So my question is: How the hell can I get through this mission without people permanently dying?

I have also walked around and dispelled the invisibility of Ender, Ritual Captain (or something), but I never see him. Maybe I don't look good enough, but when you pause, the cyan circle is supposed to show right? I had this like ten times and it seems highly unlikely that I missed him every time. Does anyone know how this can be?

And also why my true sight doesn't work well? Those stupid assassins can still turn invisible when I have it on :madr:

There's a little bit of quirkiness involved with True Seeing.

    It last for ten rounds.

Now for what that really means ...

It works ten times, once each round. Once it works for a single time in a given round, a monster can go invisibile again. He'll remain invisible until True Seeing works instantaneously in the next round. And so on ...

It often helps to have multiple True Seeings on at once, though I'll admit that conserving your resources through the Ritual Mod is a problem.

    Having an Inquisitor definitely helps.

A ploy I often used was to have sombody who get absorb the backstab (e.g.) fighter/mage stick his neck out. Wait for the message " ***** attacks (fighter/mage)" and then lead him back to the party. Doesn't always work, but it often does.

OK, that answers my True Seeing question, thanks.

How do you let one character 'stick their neck out'? I tried to have one character walk around with true sight, but I turned him invisible, because else it'd be suicide walking past all those groups. When I did this, an assassin just sneaked up to my group of remaining people, was detected, drank another invisibility potion and backstabbed my archer... Even though she wasn't the one attacking him when he got visible (for like a half second).

I also tried just ignoring the assassins and go after the groups, but then everytime my archer still gets backstabbed.

Does anybody have an idea to effectively counter their backstab?

you could use stoneskin until all of their invisibity potions are used up - but for some reason, I get the feeling that enemies can hide in shadows even when stood next to your characters (this happens in the Tanner murders missions when the assassins don't appear to have potions but still constantly backstab you.

Alternativly, do you have a free party slot?? If you did you could temporarily load a Barbarian who can't be backstabbed.

I already cheesed one group by using mislead with my fighter/thief and backstabbing people, but I don't really like that.

I will try your stoneskin suggestion. I like it a lot :) , thanks!

[edit] OK, I did it! Thanks everybody for their help! If someone wants to know how I did it, say so in this topic or PM me[/edit]
