Hello, this is my first, full length I guess I could say story I will be posting on these boards. I will post one chapter a week hopefully. It is set in a custom world, but it is just a run of the mill fantasy/medievil setting. I hope that my story telling however will draw you into the world and make it seem not so ordinary. :)

    Enjoy.

    Story Information:

Rated: PG-13 for violence, and some language.

Most planned story I have ever written.

SS Fantasy - Sword and Sorcery Fantasy

    The Silver Circle

    Prologue: Back and Forth

The morning sun was just coming over the horizon. Balmora was yet sleeping and few footsteps could be heard on its cobblestone roads. The only ones awake were the king’s cooks who were preparing for the difficult task of feeding the castle this day, as they did every day.

However one could imagine there were also a few others awake at this time. In the temples of Balmora priests were likely up and chanting the morning’s sermons to an empty cathedral. Perhaps some drunks had awoken from their stupor and were stumbling home, holding their aching heads. Maybe even a few thieves who had come out empty handed from the night’s prowling were now slinking down the back alleys to rest in their hideouts. Yes, maybe there were a few others awake, but they made little noise. The city was silent.

Coming in through the southwestern gates of the city you were met with the merchant’s district. Several stalls were sitting unused in the dawn light, waiting for their masters to fill them with various sundries to be sold during the day. Wealthier merchants had permanent structures to sell their wares from, they slept snugly within silken sheets, some with exotic companions smelling for all the world like delicious fruit bowls.

As you went further towards the center of the city the buildings changed from rather small shops to larger buildings owned by craftsmen and other well to do Balmorites.

If you took a turn to the left, up Mandrake road, you reached small squatted houses cluttered together, nearly on top of each other. The slums of the city filled with the poor, the wretched, the ill, the peasant. This was normally a lively place, during the day at least, the inhabitants were normally peaceful if loud and uncouth.

In the slums a young boy scampered out of a shady alcove holding his night’s earnings. A large brown purse full of copper coins. Instead of traveling further into the slums to hide his loot, the boy appeared to be heading towards the middle class section of the city, purse in hand, coins tinkling.

The small thief ducked and weaved, flitting from shadow to shadow. He went east across Tanner’s alley, hopping from pavestone to pavestone upon bare calloused feet. He was now very far into the middle class section and by some sudden inspiration was made aware that holding a large purse of money in full view was not wise, the boy hid the small purse in his tattered tunic and continued on his way.

A tavern reared up in front of the boy when he turned a corner and he tilted his head at it, thinking. The bright light of recognition lit up his face and he ran behind the dark building and disappeared into a hatch door.

Nearby, at a beautiful manor decidedly out of place in a neighborhood such as this a man in his late forties sat in the garden watching the sunrise. A dog with a golden coat lay in the man’s lap, basking in the sun’s warm rays. The large man stroked the dog’s back, a slight smile on his face. He watched the sun from his rocking chair, rolling back and forth. Back and forth.

It shows promise, just try to make the segments longer otherwise I'll go insane (assuming it's good, of course ;) )

Wow. I like it. Pretty interesting, although there's not that much to go on so far.

Thank you, yup, the next chapters will be longer, this was just a prologue. Chapter one is already a few pages long, and will get at least a few pages longer.

The next couple of chapters will introduce you to most of the main characters so you'll have more to chomp on.
