I was in the shower this morning and thinking about SP.

I was thinking about how much diversity there is on here and how, even though we're all so totally different, we're all like a little family. There's the out-spoken members, the quiet members, the sensible members (well...maybe not) and we all bicker and moan at each other but as soon somebody needs advice about anything, we all try our best to help.

It's not often you find that anywhere and it does make SP less of a web-site and more of a community. I mean, I would open my house to any of you if you ever needed a place to crash, even though you are all a bunch of weirdo's

SP is much more than an RP site as well. I haven't played many RP's lately but I still love coming here and trolling the boards to find out what's going on because mixed in with the questions about whether a druid is supierior to a paladin (they are) are the really meaningful questions in life like 'Is it offensive to ask a Dutch person if they want a smoke and a pancake?' 'Is it true the Finnish melt in high temperatures?' and, of course 'Do all Americans live in trailers?'

I just really love you guys (and no, I'm not drunk this time!)!

I also wanted to say a MASSIVE thanks to Tal and the Mods as well for the fabulous work they all do in keeping this site running and keeping it in the upper ranks of greatness!

    /end suck up

My first reaction was, "Is Silvery drunk again?" and then I saw your defense. :p

And I agree with all of what you've said (except the druid/paladin thing; it is a non-issue, seeing as assassins are far better than both of them :D), SP is a wonderful place. Haha I have almost 4 thousand posts, which is amazing because in real life I don't like people :p

I think what I find most amazing about SP is the diversity, especially the fact each one of us has such different views on just about anything, be it games, sports, social and political issues, anything, yet outside of the particular threads where we disagree everyone gets along nicely outside these threads. Even when discussions get heated in the Alleys they don't get out of hand and stay civilised (most of the time at least :p). Since you started the thread I'll pick you as an example: I disagree with the majority of your posts in the Alleys, yet I enjoy reading your posts in other threads and chatting in the FAI when you used to be there often. Same with LKD, I share some of his views and disagree with others, but even when I disagree with him I enjoy reading his posts. These are only two example, there are many more, and from the interplay between other members I noticed I'm not the only one who does this. I think it takes some maturity to be able to separate disagreement with someone's opinion from personal attacks on said person (this applies to real life too), and the community as a whole here manages to do this beautifully. What's most amazing is that Tal managed to create this kind of environment with a relatively very laid back set of rules. In fives years here I can remember one person being banned permanently, and he was practically begging for it (starting an account for the sole purpose of insulting people on here, both admins and regulars. Even then the thing went one for a couple of pages before the admins stopped it). Even after so many years it still feels odd sometimes when I notice BTA or dmc posting in some of the threads as us regular people do. It goes to show how good your mods are when you don't even need to enforce rules harshly - it feels as if everything happened by itself. Which it didn't, of course.

So yeah, massive thanks indeed :)

Not all Americans live in trailers -- just American rednecks. Tornadoes are God's way of reducing the redneck population.

You mean questions like, 'Why do all Brits have such awful teeth?' :p

You know, Sorvo used to hold to the title of SP Drunk....but he's been MIA from the boards for such a long time, I think it's only fitting that you get the honor of such a title... :D

As for SP and its members...all I can say is that I hate you all, and you can all burn in hell....

    Juuuuuuuuust kidding! :p  :p

To be honest, the community is what has kept me here for so long. I haven't played any games in many months due to my hectic RL. I'm currently going through several life changing - and very difficult - challenges in my life right now, and though I've shared some info here, and vented from time to time, I can't bring myself to spill the beans of what's going on. There are some things that lines of text can't help. :bad:

But that's not going to keep me from coming here. :D

:p Haha no, I was just poking fun because you had 3 or 4 posts in a row in the current RBP (or maybe the last one?) where you were talking about drinking/being drunk.

Posting on here drunk is a bunch of fun though. Particularly when you don't remember you posted the next morning.

I disagree with the entire premise of this thread. Why?

Midgets. SP has no midgets. I've looked. Not a one.

Until that changes, I submit that SP is neither weird nor wonderful. Get some midgets, and it will be both.

lol, with me, it's the opposite. In real life, I'm a babbler mouth just wanting attention, yet I have an average of 0,14 post a day here. Maybe it has to do with my dislike of writing...

I was really on SP intensely for a while at the beginning, than sorta stopped posting for a couple years. I very recently came back to the boards. Amongst the regulars, I see familiar names, others I don't know. But it does feel like family, like people you know, even though you don't really. In fact, I think I posted two or three posts outside the Whatnots, Alley and such. This became more of a family of different interests than a community of RP. And like Silvery offered for her town, if any of you are in the Ottawa, Canada region, my couch is comfy.. :)

And speaking of Silvery, my god, we could get along very very well on account of our alcohol fondness... In fact, i'm drinking my second beer right now... and it's not even 4 pm yet...:banana:

Maybe so, but, I do have three Canadian communications games under my belt (a competition between 8 universities that have a french communications program. It's also a 4 days of drunkness, litterally. I slept 5 hours in the whole thing each year I did it. I was even voted 'best party guy' in my delegation)

Is that a challenge? I would take you up anytime on that!

    Is that a challenge Silvery?

In Hawaii, me and a shipmate went out on the town -- we staggered back after eight double shots of Crown Royal; we also split a bottle of Shiraz at dinner and had a nice warm brandy after. It was a short night.

In Mexico, we had eight Coronas at lunch, then snacked on nacho's and split a picture a margarita's. At dinner was another six Dos Equis'. After dinner we hit the clubs and I lost count after four more beers and a couple of shots of tequila (for the record, when someone shouts 'another round of tequila for my friends' he is not your friend). I don't really remember how I got back to the ship that night.

In Diego Garcia (BIOT) they have a horn in the Brit bar that holds two liters of beer you drink in one go. I think a requirement for such a challenge is to already be drunk.

In Subic Bay... well, we won't talk about Subic Bay.

I once calculated that I averaged ten drinks (beer or shot of alcohol) every night I went out. That was average and some nights I didn't drink at all. I don't drink so much anymore, but when Mrs Bruno gives me a green light I easily hit that average in two or three hours.

In my experience, doing keg stands = shaved eyebrows later that evening. They do grow back rather quick though...
