[IMG] Finally, after a long long wait, Warner Bros. has decided to resurrect the Dark Knight. Yes folks - a new Batman movie will begin production early 2004, hopefully for release around Christmas time. As a huge fan of the original Batman, the comic books, the original TV show, and grew up watching the cartoon, I'm pretty stoked.

I was certain the series was dead after the last 2 disastrous Batman movies ("Forever" and "& Robin"). Joel Schumacher took a beautifully dark and wicked setting masterfully laid out by Tim Burton and essentially wiped his ass with it. Out with the dark, mysterious gothic feel, in with neon lights, pastels, campy dialogue and over-acting! Good one, dickbrain. Ruin a perfectly good formula. Friends don't let friends let former window dressers direct movies. :nono:

I hate Joel Schumacher. But I digress...

    Why this one won't suck:
    • Joel Schumacher has nothing to do with it (that sold me right there!)
    • Christian Bale is Batman (American Psycho, Reign of Fire)
    • Michael Caine is Alfred (Cider House Rules, he won an Oscar)
    • Christopher Nolan is directing (he did Momento, which kicked ass)

I believe the working title is "Batman: Dark Knight," and it's set in Batman's early years as a the caped crusader. Hence, no Robin (we'll live without him), no Bat Girl (thank god), and Batman being portrayed by such a young actor (Bale is like 27 I think). I've also read they're going to stick fairly true to the books and comics.

    Joel Schumacher sucks ass.

The main thing I'm curious about is who the villain will be. Maybe a fellow Batman buff can fill me in. Who would you want to see, and who should play him? I've always thought it would be cool if they brought Scarecrow into the movies, played by somebody like David Warner (ya know, Irenicus?). What do you think?

Did I mention Joel Schumacher is a complete butt-puppet?

/me jumps up and down repeatedly in excitement, glee, and general joy.

I just hope hope hope that this is better than the last two paltry efforts at a Batman flick.

There is more chance that this new Batman will suck judging from the two last movies but I could be wrong.

Ofelix, that's my whole point - the last two movies sucked because Joel Schumacher, King of Ass-Clowns, ruined the series. The new movie has a chance to be cool because they're using an entirely new cast and crew. New director. GOOD director. No suck. Get it?

Yeah but the only one I liked was the first one, the second, third and fourth sucked really hard.
Anyway Actor doesn't make a movie ya know? You could have the best actor in the world but a movie could still suck really hard... As I said actor/director/producer doesn't make a movie great or not, but I could be wrong.

I'm also hoping for a good Batman movie ever since the first two, I think Michael Keaton was by far the best actor to have played Batman (with all due respect for Adam West). I think Christian Bale is a fine actor, but too young for the Batman role. As for Christopher Nolan directing,Memento was truly great so there is hope for this new Batman film (what's the official name anyway?)

From my initial post...from what I've seen, the working title is "rumored" to be "Batman: Dark Knight" but Warner Bros. isn't commenting at this point. And I agree that Bale is a bit young, but the movie will be focusing on his earlier years as Batman. So he's supposed to be young.

I think Christian Bale will make a great Batman. I thought that he was great in "Reign of Fire", particularly when they did that skit based on "Star Wars". I am a little concerned that Nolan will forget that a Batman movie should also be fun and take it the way "The Hulk" went.

AICN is a nice site, but one of the best to round up all the news about works in progress is here . They may not be the fastest, but as you can see, they are thorough. Latest rumors are John Malkovich and Dennis Quaid as the villians.

Looks like lots of Superheros are on the way. Of course Spidey 2 in July 2004 and under development are film versions of the Fantastic Four, Hellboy, The Punisher, Superman and even a Catwoman movie with Halle Berry in the title role going up against Sharon Stone as Laurel.

It looks like the trailer for Spidey 2 will come out with ROTK, and it is supposed to rock.

Maybe I should become the SP movie news guy.

Maybe I've been living under a rock, but who exactly is Ra's Al Ghul?

I just read that the working title is actually "Batman: Intimidation Game." I hope that's just a rumor - that's lame. :nono:

Odd that I should mention that David "Irenicus" Warner would be in ideal choice IMO for Scarecrow, when it just so happens that Warner did the voice for Ra's Al Ghul in the animated series. Yes friends, rumor has it that the two villains slated for the movie are both Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul, and John Malkovich is rumored to be playing either, though no one is sure which. Dennis Quaid also may appear as a younger Commissioner Gordon.

    @ Hacken

Sorry dude...Falstaff already has the job! :D

Edit for Soul FS: Ra's Al Ghul

Funny, when you first mentioned Quaid - I had a mental image of that big, goofy grin of his - he could be a decent enough Jack Napier :1eye:

By the way, as superhero movies go, here's hoping Del Toro doesn't bloody mess up Hellboy the way he did with Blade2. Heard Mike Mignola (author of the comic) is heavily involved though - so that gives cause for some cautious optimism.

    No Joel?? YES!!!!! :thumb:

No Michael Gough as Alfred?? NOOOO!!!

Besides Pat Hingle (Commissioner Gordon), Michael Gough is the only actor to play the asme character in the whole series. Even Harvey Dent was changed - from Billy Dee Williams to Tommy Lee Jones of all things. How can they seriously change a character from being played by a black guy to being played by a white guy?

Viggo was great as Satan in "The Prophecy," and a slightly believable sleazebag type in "A Perfect Murder" I believe it was called. So yeah - he would be good, but after the Rings they better be prepared to fork out some serious lettuce to get him.

Oh - and thanks GM. ;)
