[IMG] I am playing a couple of multi-class thief characters in different games. I have not use any of the HLA traps yet and would like some opinions on the spike, exploding, and time traps.

They're nasty, and hard to resist abusing. ;)

    True dat, Klorox. ;)

But I do loves me some spike traps. After UAI, I tend to stick with spike trap HLAs until I've got a full 7 per day. There's damn near NOTHIN' in the game that won't be killed by 7 spike traps. I dont think I've ever used either of the other traps once!

They are the cheesy smelling tools of evil and abuse!

But they sure are FUN! :shake:

Spike trap is the best so far, it does massive damage to a single target. Add a lot of these and you can KO Demogorgon right at the start of battle!

Time trap is nice, but it lasts soo short:the only use is getting a nice backstab at the start of combat, or casting your own Time Stop uninterrupted. Time trap opens up a lot of new strategies if you are fast enough:bash the annoying mage/lich with SoM in the time stop, and his protections will be gone immediately:switch to your favourite weapon combo and start hacking. Fun!

I never experienced with Exploding trap though. Might be useful against swarms of lowly enemies.

time trap is useful for getting rid of one annoying enemy. Timetrap plus assassination is a nasty combo, especially with improved haste.

So use both spike traps and time traps, plant spike traps where you know a mage will appear, and plant a timetrap where you know a fighter will appear (since they wont have contingencies that cast improved mantle or absolute immunity).

Time traps are okay if you need a moment or two, but I typically don't use them. Explosive traps are crap. They explode the instant anything comes within range, so even with a horde chasing you it'll only take out the first rank; the only time you might ever use one is if you know that a big group is going to spontaneously pop in somewhere.

My favorite trap experience was during my second solo. Ring of the Ram on Kangaxx pushing him right into a spike trap I'd laid in the corner. He never even got off a single Imprisonment.
